Scope of service
I would like to book the service for the outbound and return flights. I would like to book the service for the outbound flight only. I would like to book the service for the return flight only.

Register cat or dog

We’ll check availability and book the carriage of your pet in the cargo hold as excess baggage for your next Lufthansa flight. We will inform you by email whether the desired service can be confirmed. If your booking is successful, you must pay the fees incurred at check-in at the airport.

Conditions
  • New bookings for dogs to the USA will only be accepted for the airports in Washington DC, New York-JFK, Newark, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
  • Bookings must be made at least 72 hours before departure.
  • Available on flights operated by Lufthansa, exceptions may apply on Lufthansa code-share flights (e.g. no availability on flights operated by United Airlines).
  • No availability on travel with a transfer in Munich. Direct flights to/from Munich can be booked.
  • Lufthansa Express Bus/Lufthansa Express Rail: carriage not possible.
  • You are obliged to present the required health, entry and transfer documents at the airport.
  • Specific national restrictions (e.g. Australia, Bahrain, China, etc.) and exceptions for certain aircraft types may apply.
  • The minimum age of the animal to/from Germany is 15 weeks; in all other countries, 12 weeks.
  • Since 01.08.2024, dogs must be a minimum of six months old to be accepted for travel to the USA.
  • Each animal must be able to move during its journey, as well as stand, lie down and turn around in its cage. If two animals are transported together in a single crate, they must be used to one another.
  • Only one animal is permitted per transport container. Exception: two animals of approximately the same size and each no heavier than 14 kg, or a mother animal with a young animal.
  • Your pet’s ​transport container must comply with IATA Live Animal Regulations, e.g.
    ventilation openings must not exceed 25 mm x 25 mm for dogs and 19 mm x 19 mm for cats.
