At the airport with children

With Lufthansa, flying becomes an enjoyable experience for the whole family that begins as soon as you arrive at the airport. At our Frankfurt and Munich hubs, in particular, families are especially well looked after before boarding.

Make airport waiting times pass more quickly

The way an airport operates fascinates children: suitcases are loaded and unloaded, fuel tankers are attached to aircraft and perhaps you’ll even get a glimpse of the pilots through the airport’s windows. That’s why we recommend you should schedule in a little more time at the airport, so that the idea of flying becomes more comprehensible and even more exciting to children. At many airports there are viewing terraces available which, in fine weather, allow even better insights into how an airport works.

If your children would prefer to play and run around, visit the play corners specifically designed for children which most airports provide. All the essential information about these can be found on the websites of your departure and destination airports. You can find out at the Lufthansa family check-in counters at Munich and Frankfurt airports how best to spend the time at the airport with your children.

Check-in with the family

Are you flying off on holiday with the whole family and want to find the fastest way to your departure gate? We have a few tips here to help you enjoy a relaxed start to your trip.

Free baggage allowance for children and adults

The permitted free baggage allowance is determined by the travel class and fare booked and by the passenger’s frequent flyer status. You’ll find details of our free baggage allowances here.

Good to know

As carry-on baggage, you can take one item of baggage with you, such as a trolley case, and also a compact, foldable baby buggy (max dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm). You can take two items in Business or First Class.

Borrowing buggies free of charge

The borrowing system is simple: in Terminal 1, buggies are available at the service point in the public area of Concourse B and at information counter 10 in Transit Zone B.

In Terminal 2, you can borrow a buggy at the service point in the public area between Concourses D and E. The buggies can also be dropped off again there after use. However, if you are departing or changing flights, you can just leave your buggy at the gate. Airport staff will collect it from there.

Separate children’s area in the Business Lounge

Children can relax and have fun here! Lufthansa has created its first children’s area in the Frankfurt Business Lounge at Gate B48. Here young passengers may look forward to a play corner and playpen, to drawing tables, games consoles and an Internet PC for kids. A children’s cinema and comfortable beanbags to sit on also ensure lots of fun is had even before the flight.

Access to the lounge is available to First and Business Class passengers, HON Circle Members, Senators, Frequent Travellers and holders of Star Gold cards.
