9 AM: Jogging by the water

The people of Toronto love sports. They flock to Toronto Blue Jays baseball games, play basketball in the park, or go jogging on the beach. That also motivates me to go for a run in the morning. From my hotel in downtown, I run along the waterfront to Polson Pier and from there, I let my gaze wander over the city skyline. It's heavenly!

10 AM: Coffee at Subtext Coffee Roasters

On the way back to the hotel, I reward myself with a coffee to go at my favorite café, Subtext Coffee Roasters on Cawthra Avenue in the city center. The micro-roastery smells of freshly ground beans, and the baristas know exactly what they're doing. The result: the best coffee in the city.

12 PM: Relaxing on Toronto Island

South of downtown, at Jack Layton Ferry Pier, the ferry to Toronto Island departs every 30 minutes. The crossing takes only 13 minutes, and soon there's no sign of the city's hustle and bustle. On the island, I like to relax on one of the many beaches, rent a canoe, or explore Toronto Island Park by bike.

4 PM: Shopping in the Distillery District

In the afternoon, I head to the Distillery District, where a large whiskey distillery once stood. Today, it is a trendy creative district with many restaurants, shops, and galleries. One of the best places for contemporary art is the Arta Gallery, but there is also plenty to discover on the street.

8 PM: Cocktails at the AP Restaurant

That Toronto is Canada's multicultural metropolis is especially evident in the evenings when going out. Music from all corners of the world fills the bars, and in the restaurants, you can sample cuisine from around the globe. My tip: Have cocktails at the AP Restaurant on the 51st floor of a skyscraper. The view is fantastic!

Tip:

On a guided street art tour, which you can book via GetYourGuide, you will receive fascinating background information on the making and significance of the artworks in the creative Distillery District.
