Travelling with children during the coronavirus pandemic

Even the little ones are happy to finally be able to discover the world again. However, if you are travelling with children at the present time, you might have more questions than usual. We have compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions for you here.
General questions
Find the most important information about entering your destination country: regulations on Covid-19 test certificates and local test centres, as well as local quarantine requirements. Simply enter your departure and destination airport here.
If you are travelling with unvaccinated children, please find out the full details of the regulations of your transit and destination countries as they apply to your children.
There are various opportunities to disinfect your hands at sanitising dispensers at the airport. Antibacterial and antiviral disinfecting wipes are distributed on board on request. Nevertheless, you are welcome to bring additional sanitisers with you, as long as they do not exceed the limit for liquids in carry-on baggage (less than 100 ml per container, a maximum of one litre per person in total).
Yes, there are still blankets, headphones and pillows available on long-haul flights.
On medium-haul flights blankets are only being distributed in Business Class and only on night flights.
If you are travelling with children under the age of six, you will be eligible for pre-boarding. Please let us know in advance if this is the case.
Travelling with babies and toddlers
Yes, baby food is available as usual.
Both the aircraft and the changing tables are disinfected before each flight – additional hygiene products specifically for the changing tables are therefore not available. Disinfecting wipes for small requirements are distributed to all passengers before take-off.
Yes, baby food brought on board can still be warmed up.
Travelling with children
Children under the age of six are allowed to travel without wearing a face mask; older children must wear a face mask on board.
Please note that at some airports it continues to be compulsory to wear a medical face mask (FFP2-, FFP3-, KN95- and N95-standard without valves and not made of fabric, or surgical masks) in the shops, on public transport and sometimes also in the terminal building.
The wearing of cloth face masks or visors (face shields) as well as scarves or handkerchiefs as masks is not permitted.
Depending on country-specific regulations, different rules may apply. Please find out about the current regulations before starting your journey.
Please note that in the case of children aged six and over, the same regulations apply when visiting our lounges as apply to adults.
Yes, we still hand out toys on board. However, there might be exceptions on certain routes.
Yes, the inflight entertainment programme is available as usual.
Unaccompanied children
Due to the current situation, no new bookings will be accepted for unaccompanied children on Lufthansa flights that are operated between 16 July and 31 August 2022. Existing bookings are not affected by this.
If you already have a confirmed direct flight including care service for your child, this is still valid. Unfortunately, the care service for unaccompanied children is currently not yet available for connecting flights. If you already have a confirmed connecting flight including care service for your child, please get in touch with our Service Center immediately.
