The Essence

When I think of my hometown, I immediately feel a sense of freedom. More open and tolerant than most Indian cities, Bengaluru attracts people from all over the country. They come to study or to make a career in the city’s vibrant music scene.

The Feeling

In Bengaluru, we like to share our feelings. For example, we love going to the movies in groups. We laugh out loud at every funny scene. And we scream when the hero appears. Another communal experience is when the whole city celebrates Diwali, the festival of lights.

The People

Bengaluru people are very open, curious, and welcoming. I went to school with children from all over India. So I came into contact with a lot of different cultures at an early age, and like most of the people here, I speak several Indian languages.

The Insight

When I came to Germany, I realized how digitized life is in India. I hadn’t received letters or paid cash for years. I was also surprised to see that there are relatively few women working in the IT sector in Germany. In Bengaluru, it’s very different.

For Friends

The city has a unique magic at night when everything is bathed in colorful lights. I used to go to Byg Brewski, a gastro pub, with my friends. There, we tried food from all over India and beers from around the world. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, we would have ice cream at Cream Stone and then go to the movies. With its luxurious seats, the PVR Director's Cut is especially nice. During the day, I liked shopping in one of the city’s many malls, where many international fashion chains are represented. This fits in well with the look of the young women in Bengaluru, who prefer to wear shorts and skirts instead of the traditional Indian dress.

About:

Angel Murugesan is originally from Bengaluru and worked there in the IT sector for six years before moving to Ulm in 2022 to work as a software developer for Nokia. She is fascinated by the quietness in Germany – and the fact that almost everyone follows the traffic rules.
