About two hours southwest of Bengaluru, in and around Mysuru, two absolute highlights await visitors: the magnificent summer residence of Tipu Sultan and the stunning Amba Vilas Palace. From Bengaluru, a nostalgic train ride to the city takes you through a tropical setting and picturesque villages.

Mysuru is also world-famous for an award-winning dessert, the Mysore pak. These are square cakes soaked in sugar syrup and made with a good dose of ghee (the sacred Indian butter), cardamom, and chickpea flour. Guru Sweet Mart in Devaraja Market still uses the closely guarded original recipe.
