Seat Reservations

Learn more about seat selection, seat categories and how to reserve a seat. Find out why your seat reservation guarantees a seat within a certain seat category, not a specific seat.

Please feel free to also visit our Advance seat reservation page to explore available options for your booking.

Seat selection

A seat reservation allows you to request a seat within a specific seat category (e.g., Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat) from a selection of available seats. If your fare does not include a free seat reservation, or you have not made use of it, you will be allocated a seat automatically during online check-in. Each seat reservation is valid for a single leg of your flight. All seat bookings are subject to the General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage.

If your fare includes a free seat reservation, you can reserve a seat while booking, online via My bookings or later on when checking in. If your fare does not include a free seat reservation, you can make an advance seat reservation for a fee dependent on your fare type and the seat category selected.

For flights operated by Lufthansa, you can add a seat reservation up to 2 hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. An advance seat reservation is subject to availability of requested seats and applies to a single leg of your flight. The fees shown on [lufthansa.com] will be charged in the currency of the country of departure. Please be aware that our online offers, fares or conditions may change at any time and without prior notice. The availability of bookable seats varies continuously depending on supply and demand.

Please note that the advance seat reservation fee does not create an entitlement for a specific selected seat (e.g. seat 3A). It only entitles for the seat category selected (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat, etc.).

Your seat may need to be changed due to operational reasons. While we do our best to minimize these changes, we cannot guarantee that you will retain your originally selected seat. You are eligible for a refund if we cannot offer you a seat within the seat category you have booked.

There are two different types of seat maps. For flights operated by Lufthansa Group airlines we are able to display a detailed seat plan. For flights operated by partner airlines, only a simplified version of the seat map is available.

Children aged two or older, or who will turn two during the trip, require their own seat. Conditions for seat reservations are the same as for adults. If your child is flying on their own, please learn more about our service for unaccompanied children.

For Lufthansa Allegris flights in Business Class especially, we strongly recommend that you reserve your seats early, as there are limited options available for travel companions to sit together.

Please note that under ENAC regulations (Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile [Italian Civil Aviation Authority]), you are entitled to a free Classic Seat reservation on flights to and from Italy if you are travelling with a child between the ages of two and twelve. We will assign you seats together at check-in free of charge.

On flights to and from Canada, if we are not able to seat your child near an adult in your group, you can rebook your flight or cancel your trip free of charge.

Baby bassinets are available on long-haul flights for children younger than two years. A baby bassinet needs to be booked separately and before making a seat reservation.

If you have a child under two years old travelling with you, you have the option of booking a seat for them and taking an appropriate child restraint system, such as a baby carrier or child car seat, on board with you.

Please find additional information on how to book a baby bassinet free of charge in our Help Center

For infants under two years old, please read our guide on flying with small children for more information.

Passengers with a disability and one accompanying person may reserve seats for free if travel requirements are fulfilled. Please visit our accessible travel page to find information about our services for passengers with disabilities, such as mobility or sensory impairments.

Please note that under ENAC regulations (Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile [Italian Civil Aviation Authority]), you are entitled to a free Classic Seat reservation on flights to and from Italy if you are a passenger with a disability or accompanying a passenger with a disability. We will assign you seats together at check-in free of charge.
