Check in faster: The CommonPass app

In the context of pandemic response, many countries have stipulated in their entry regulations that certain health documents are mandatory for entry. This includes for example: a valid negative Covid-19 test, a digital entry application for Germany or a Passenger Locator Form. These documents must be checked for validity by the airlines before departure. This takes an enormous effort concerning organisation and time for passengers and airlines, especially when it is done manually. Checking documents digitally can speed up the process and show possible discrepancies in advance.

Fast. Easy. Digital.

The Lufthansa Group strives to digitalise and standardise these document checks. The aim is to give all passengers an opportunity to present the necessary documents in electronic form before departure, thus speeding up the check-in process.

In the future, several systems will be in place to digitalise and standardise document checks. Together with you, we are looking for the best solution for our customers. Therefore, Lufthansa is testing the free CommonPass app on selected connections from Frankfurt to North America.

The CommonPass app can be used on the following connections:

  • LH400 Frankfurt (FRA) – New York (JFK)
  • LH402 Frankfurt (FRA) – New York/Newark (EWR)
  • LH418 Frankfurt (FRA) – Washington (IAD)
  • LH422 Frankfurt (FRA) – Boston (BOS)
  • LH430 Frankfurt (FRA) – Chicago (ORD)
  • LH440 Frankfurt (FRA) – Houston (IAH)
  • LH446 Frankfurt (FRA) – Denver (DEN)
  • LH454 Frankfurt (FRA) – San Francisco (SFO)
  • LH456 Frankfurt (FRA) – Los Angeles (LAX)
  • LH462 Frankfurt (FRA) – Miami (MIA)
  • LH490 Frankfurt (FRA) – Seattle (SEA)

One app for your documents: CommonPass

CommonPass is an electronic health certificate in the form of an app. In the app, you can ensure you have met the health related requirements for entry and create a pass (e.g. Covid-19 test results). With your consent, the pass will then be shared as needed. Using the CommonPass app is free, very simple and intuitive:

Download app

Install the CommonPass app on your smartphone.

Enter invitation code

During the current testing phase, an invitation code is needed to use the CommonPass app. Please type in the following six-digit invitation code: CP4LHG

Create travel pass

Log in to your test provider in the CommonPass app and download the result of your Covid-19 test to create a pass with a valid-until time based on the date and time of the test and the entry rules of the country you are traveling to.

Check in easily

Show your test result in the CommonPass app at the various airport checkpoints to check in more easily.

Your benefits

The CommonPass app reduces the personal data of your test result to the minimum required for your trip. Thus, in this standardised format, far less data is visible than on the data-sensitive medical documents.

  • The CommonPass app is free and will be connected to many international test centres in the future
  • A timestamp gives an accurate indication of the validity of your test at any time
  • Faster check-in at the counter and at the various airport checkpoints
  • Relaxed travel experience based on less waiting time and faster boarding

In Germany and in the USA, different regulations apply. Please inform yourself ahead of traveling about the entry regulations for Germany and the USA.

Information concerning the testing phase

In the limited feature testing phase, CommonPass is connected to the test provider CENTOGENE, with other providers to follow. In the current test version, the app is only available in the English language, in the future, it will also be available in other languages, of course.

Please note that during the testing phase, it is necessary to present the app when passing the various airport checkpoints, along with a printed CENTOGENE certificate that allows you to enter your country of destination. Nevertheless: Using the app helps speed up the process at your point of departure significantly.
