On the Scene in Rome: Locals Talk About the Latest Trends in Their City
Rome by Day and Night: DJ Lorenzo Pisapia Loves Loud Techno Beats and Quiet Moments in the Hip Monti District
When night falls in Rome, the Eternal City gradually quiets down – at least on the streets, where things get pleasantly calm and chill. But in the clubs, the bass is booming, and the rave scene comes alive. Techno is making a big comeback, especially with the younger crowd. For those looking to dance the night away, I highly recommend Spazio Novecento, a massive and super-stylish club where the biggest names in the international techno and house scene take over the decks. It’s a huge dream of mine to spin the music there one day and keep the crowd raving until the early hours.
Rome, the city that’s always been my home, doesn’t always make life easy. Its beauty draws people from all over the world year-round. And while that’s amazing in some ways, it can also be a bit overwhelming. That’s why I love hanging out in Monti during the day. It’s a trendy neighborhood now, right in the heart of Rome, between the Colosseum and Termini station – but it’s usually not too crowded, and there are still plenty of spots that feel authentically Roman. The narrow alleys and small streets are full of boutiques, art galleries, vintage shops, cozy cafés, and great restaurants.
For a cocktail or a long drink, I head to Drink Kong, a cocktail bar in Monti founded by Patrick Pistolesi, one of Italy’s most famous bartenders. Drink Kong is inspired by cyberpunk and Japanese pop culture, with a minimalist vibe and excellently mixed drinks. It’s here that I start to get in the mood for another night full of beats and bass at Spazio Novecento …
