All you need to know about the Coronavirus
Passengers of cancelled or significantly delayed flights who choose not to make use of a flexible rebooking option can, of course, still request a refund. The same applies for passengers holding tickets with refundable fares, irrespective of the flight status. You can use either use the online refund option or contact our Service Center. However, we ask for your understanding that due to the high volume of requests, it might not be possible to process refunds within the usual time limits.
The german aviation authorities have adapted procedures in order to enable the best protection for passengers and staff during airport security checks.
Please observe the general principle of “social distancing” at the security checkpoint by keeping a distance of at least two arm lengths from other people.
In addition, one of the main features of the new regulation is to limit the amount of hand luggage to one piece only. While Lufthansa allows up to 2 pieces of hand luggage depending on class of travel, as well as one personal item, we support this measure and kindly ask you to only take one piece of hand luggage into the cabin.
To make this easier for you, we have also adapted our baggage rules with immediate effect: You may now check in any compatible piece of hand luggage for free – even if you have booked a light fare. Please make sure to follow the guidelines on dangerous goods in checked luggage while packing.
These changes also apply to passengers in transit who pass through security in Germany.
Please note that the general procedures at security checkpoints may have been modified as well. Any change aims to facilitate a smooth security check and the protection of passengers and staff.
We wish you pleasant travels and thank you for your cooperation.
In addition to confirming the previous entry bans for non-EU citizens, a 14-day quarantine obligation has been introduced for those entering Germany (EU citizens, citizens of a Schengen-associated state or long-term residents of Germany and their families). We urgently ask you, before you start your journey to inform yourself about the current regulations via the websites of the Robert-Koch-Institute.
Latest entry restrictions can be found via the IATA Travel center website (no responsibility taken for correctness of information).
Due to the complex and restrictive entry regulations of individual European countries, Lufthansa will collect passport / ID card data for all flights from Germany to European Destinations starting 06 May.
This will be done via an automated query during check-in. Please make sure you check the current regulations of your destination country before you start your journey and have your passport documents or ID cards ready even on intra-European flights.
Your safety and well-being are our highest priority.
We therefore kindly ask you to use a face mask on all your travels with Lufthansa as of Monday, May 4, during your stay at the airport as well as onboard. All Lufthansa Group cabin crew with direct customer contact will of course also be wearing appropriate protection. Together we can ensure that travel remains safe even in times of the coronavirus.
We kindly ask you to bring your own face mask and, for the sake of sustainability, we recommend a reusable cloth mask. Of course, you may use any type of face covering, such as simple disposable masks or even scarves.
For now, wearing a face mask remains mandatory until August 31, 2020.
You may find further information on face coverings and other hygiene measures at the website of the Robert Koch Institute.
Lufthansa has introduced further measures in order to meet the recommendations for maintaining physical distance during the coronavirus crisis, also known as „social distancing“, in the best possible way.
In order to avoid bus transfers from apron positions for our passengers, Lufthansa flights will be receiving gate positions at all German airports wherever the existing airport infrastructure and official regulations allow for it. Whenever a gate position is not possible, we have already started to employ twice as many busses than usual in the past few days.
Lufthansa had already implemented numerous measures to help increase the distance between passengers during the entire chain of travel.
