Transiting in Thailand

As part of the effort to gradually reopen Thailand’s air transport, passengers on board Lufthansa flights are allowed to transfer through Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport since 01 March 2021.

While we are excited to welcome you back on board, we kindly ask you to follow the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) regulations during your transfer as follows:

Before you book

Check eligibility to transit

Lufthansa customers can now transfer through Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport between international flights only. It is currently not allowed to transfer onto domestic flights.

The transfer time is limited to 12 hours.

When making a reservation

Your flights must be booked on the same ticket and not separate tickets to ensure compliance with various authorities’ health and safety measures for travel during this period.

Flying from your departure city

Complete pre-departure health declaration

You may be screened for signs of illnesses at your departure airport and asked to declare your health status at your departure airport. In line with the regulatory guideline, you will not be allowed to board the flight if you exhibit any respiratory illness symptoms. You also have to provide the following documents:

  • A medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected (done by RT-PCR method and issued no more than 72 hours before traveling). The certificate must be in English.
  • Travel health insurance (worldwide or explicitly including Thailand) covering health care and treatment expenses for COVID-19 disease or any other, guaranteed throughout their stay in the Kingdom of Thailand with coverage of no less than 100,000 USD.

Proceed to the boarding gate early

As there will be several checks conducted before boarding, passengers are requested to proceed to the boarding gate early.

Wear a face mask

You are required to wear a facemask throughout your flight except during mealtimes. We would recommend you bring along several masks so that you can change them if necessary. As facemask policy may vary, please check the requirement of the respective airlines.

All arriving passengers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport will have their temperature screened. Medical staff will attend to you if you are running a fever, exhibiting any respiratory illness symptoms, or are feeling unwell.

Be accompanied to your next boarding gate or transit holding area

Our ground personnel will welcome all transfer passengers and accompany them to the next gate or holding area.

Due to regulatory requirements, you must not visit any shops, restrooms, or amenities en route to the next boarding gate or the designated transit holding area. Smoking is also not allowed. All passengers are requested to keep their facemasks on at all times and observe social distancing while waiting for their connecting flights.
