Guidelines for travelling safely

Current entry requirements vary between destination countries and may change at short notice. In some circumstances a negative Covid-19 test is required.

We recommend that you use digital, contactless check-in via our website or the Lufthansa app.

Some authorities and airports are currently restricting the amount of carry-on baggage you can take with you. This is to reduce waiting times at security and speed up boarding and disembarking.

On all flights to and from Germany it is mandatory to wear a medical face mask during boarding, on board and when leaving the aircraft. On long-haul flights we recommend you bring several masks.

Currently, many airport shops and restaurants are closed. This means that the catering options may be limited.

At airports it is mandatory to wear a medical face mask in shops, on public transport and sometimes in the terminal buildings as well.

At the airports, clearly visible dispensers provide sanitiser for you to regularly disinfect your hands.

Boarding takes place in groups while maintaining a minimum safe distance. Our automatic boarding gates enable contactless boarding.

Our aircraft cabins are deep cleaned before and after each flight. In addition, the frequency and intensity of cabin cleaning has been increased.

On boarding, each passenger is given a disinfectant wipe to clean the surfaces around their own seat.

Wearing a medical face mask is mandatory during your entire time on board.

The air filtration system changes the air in the aircraft completely approximately every three minutes to provide excellent air quality. Combined with the wearing of a face mask, this ensures comprehensive protection.

To reduce person-to-person contact on board too, our current in-flight service has been modified and simplified.

Passengers entering or returning to Germany from foreign Covid-19 risk areas are obliged to quarantine.

There may be increased checks at airports, in particular if you are arriving from high-risk regions with a very high incidence of the virus or regions with a high prevalence of Covid-19 variants.

Our partners too have taken protective measures to ensure your safe onward journey. Regulations for your connecting flight may therefore differ in some cases.
