Lufthansa now flies from Munich to Johannesburg all year round. But South Africa's largest city doesn't just impress with its pleasant temperatures. Visitors can look forward to many highlights.

Festival of Lights at Joburg Zoo

Life-size light installations, food stalls, a night market, live music and dance performances. Joburg Zoo opens its doors for the Festival of Lights from November 28 2024 to January 5 2025 with lots of varied activities for the whole family.

Joburg Zoo Jazz in the Lights

Also at Johannesburg Zoo, jazz aficionados will get their money's worth on March 21, 2026: the stage is set for local and international artists – from up-and-coming talents to well-known names – and for a mix of contemporary and classic jazz.

The Melrose Gallery

Until January 15, 2026, The Melrose Gallery is hosting the exhibition “The Light We Carry” – celebrating pan-African voices from different generations and media. Dr. Esther Mahlangu takes center stage with her powerful, geometric works, accompanied by photographs, sculptures, and paintings by other artists such as Ndabuko Ntuli, Aza Mansongi, and Clint Strydom. The exhibition celebrates Africa's identity, heritage, and creative diversity in all its forms of expression.
