Bridget, Art Basel Miami Beach takes place every year in December, and the 2024 edition is your first. Are you traveling more now? 

Yes, on one hand, I live with my family in New York City, so I commute to Miami Beach. On the other hand, I travel a lot internationally for art-related matters. 

What do you like most about flying? 

Honestly, it’s that I can sleep really well on long-haul flights. I take the latest possible flight, work a bit, and then sleep. It’s wonderful! 

Did you know Miami Beach before taking on your current job? 

Yes, I used to love vacationing here. But now, I’m getting to know the city in a completely new way. To me, Miami Beach is one of the most vibrant, dynamic cities in the world, with a diverse culture, stunning architecture, and a fantastic nightlife. And, of course, the beaches are nothing to sneeze at either. Even when the stress during exhibition week is at its peak, I start my day with a moment of calm on the warm sandy beach. 

Speaking of beaches, that’s what people think of first when they hear Miami, and not necessarily art. Right?  

That’s true, but it’s a bit short-sighted. The city’s vibrant art scene is what makes it even more attractive. We have dozens of world-class galleries and amazing museums here. Miami, with its diverse population, is also an important cultural crossroads between North and South America when it comes to art. 

Is Art Basel Miami Beach only for true art connoisseurs, or does it also welcome beginners? 

Art Basel Miami Beach is more than just an art fair – it’s a transformative cultural experience. Visitors, whether they are occasional museum-goers, seasoned art collectors, or curious newcomers, will all be equally captivated. They can expect a wide range of works from established stars of the contemporary art world. 

Is Art Basel Miami Beach a good starting point for future art collectors? 

Absolutely. The fair is an excellent starting point for those new to collecting. They can dive deep into the world of art, and their questions will be answered by experts from around the globe. 

Your passion for art is palpable. What fascinates you most about it? 

Art has the power to connect people. It can transcend boundaries and allows us to look beyond our own perspectives and experience universal truths. At its simplest, art can lift someone’s spirits, but at its most powerful, it has the potential to drive societal change. That’s why supporting artists and galleries is an endlessly fulfilling pursuit for me. 

Do you ever take a break from art? 

I mainly enjoy spending time with my loved ones during my holidays. But, of course, I can never completely leave art behind. I often take my husband and daughter to galleries. Every city has its own artistic heartbeat, and it’s always worth discovering.
