The Peak Tram has been climbing Victoria Peak since 1888. When I board this iconic funicular, I immediately feel the tension in the air. As soon as the tram starts moving, I instinctively lean back as the skyscrapers outside seem to lean at absurd angles.

A Perfect Panorama: Hong Kong from Above

With every passing second, more of Hong Kong's imposing skyline is revealed. The dense skyscrapers gradually give way to lush greenery, while the view of Victoria Harbour becomes more and more breathtaking. After a few minutes, I reach the top station and make my way to Sky Terrace 428, Hong Kong's highest viewing platform, a good 100 meters below the top of the mountain. A gentle breeze blows in my direction, and then it’s there in front of me: a perfect panorama.

I take my time and let my gaze wander over the glittering water and the sea of lights. From up here, Hong Kong seems almost surreally beautiful. A walk along Lugard Road rounds off the experience – a moment that makes me forget the hustle and bustle of the metropolis for a moment.

More Insider Tips for Hong Kong from the Lufthansa Insights Editorial Team

1. New speakeasy: New bars that are really something are often located in hidden alleyways. The Blind Spot is one such speakeasy. Once you’ve found it (which is actually not that difficult), you'll be delighted by the retro ambience inspired by the cult series “Peaky Blinders”. The drinks served here are also classic – and of the highest quality.

2. The M+ (Museum and More), one of the most important new museums in Asia, is dedicated to contemporary visual arts. It is a visual treat for all fans of modern, bold architecture. The gigantic logo on the LED facade shines over Victoria Harbour, attracting art lovers to come and admire exhibitions by renowned international artists.

3. One of Hong Kong’s many islands, such as Peng Chau, which is still somewhat of an insider's tip, is ideal for a day trip. You can go hiking here, eat delicious seafood, and relax.
