How do I reserve a seat?
You can reserve your seat directly when booking your flight or at a later date. You can reserve a seat for a fee via My bookings up to two hours before departure.
You will be allocated a seat automatically during online check-in if you do not choose a seat. You can change it for a fee, depending on the fare and seat category selected. This fee is not payable by passengers who have booked a seat in advance, providing the newly selected seat is of the same or a lower seat category.
Classic Seat
Decide for yourself where you want to sit. Whether it’s a window or an aisle seat, we offer you the option of reserving your seat in advance. The price for reserving a Classic Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination, and is free of charge on the Flex fare.
Preferred Zone Seat
As a rule, the preferred seating area is located in the front part of Economy Class, directly behind Business or Premium Economy Class. These seats enable you to leave the aircraft quickly after landing, making your journey even easier and more flexible. The price of reserving a Preferred Zone Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination.
Legroom Seat
More personal space for maximum comfort in Economy Class. Make yourself comfortable in one of our ergonomic seats and enjoy about 8 cm more room compared to the Classic Seat.
HON Circle Members and Senators can reserve a Legroom Seat free of charge.
Extra Legroom Seat
We offer you the option of reserving seats with extra legroom on almost all aircraft types. Some of these seats are located in the emergency exit rows, so special conditions apply when booking these seats (see below). The price of reserving an Extra Legroom Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination.
Free Neighbour Seat
Sometimes a little more personal space is just what you need. Treat yourself to extra comfort and simply book the seat next to you on continental and intercontinental routes.
We recommend you book the neighbouring vacant seat in the following circumstances:
- You would like more space for your personal comfort
- You are not in a position to be seated in a single seat due to your physical build
- You are unable to fold down both armrests
- You cannot fasten your seat belt despite the use of a single seat belt extension
Depending on the booking situation, you can reserve your adjacent seat and make sure that the seat is guaranteed to remain empty. Please call our Service Center to do this.
Lufthansa Sleeper’s Row
Enjoy more comfort and space on your long-haul flight. With Lufthansa Sleeper’s Row, you can use an entire row of Economy Class seats on selected long-haul flights. After pre-boarding, you will receive a Sleeper’s Row kit on board, including a mattress topper, blanket and pillow in Business Class quality. Stretch out and relax for the duration of your flight. Sleeper’s Row can be booked for long-haul flights subject to availability, directly at a Lufthansa counter at the airport. Advance reservations are not possible.

Classic Seat
The Classic Seat will quickly become your very own place of wellbeing, with a hard-shell seat that offers more privacy and extra comfort thanks to a small cocktail tray, and wireless charging for your devices. The armrest and leg support in fine leather and space for your personal belongings provide optimum comfort and convenience right at your seat.
Classic Seat
The comfortable Classic Seat on short- and medium-haul flights is located in the front rows of the cabin, and offers more legroom and additional working space. The seat can be converted into a fully flat bed on long-haul flights, and offers additional storage space for your personal belongings. Depending on the fare, you can select your seat free of charge.

Business Suite
The Business Class Suite with higher partitions and completely closable doors offers you plenty of privacy and peace and quiet thanks to its exclusive position in the first row. A personal suite with lots of space, your own wardrobe, generous storage, and a small minibar. A flexible partition can create a Double Suite from two adjoining single Business Suites.
The price for a Business Suite depends on the length of your flight and your destination.
The Business Suite can only be reserved in advance by HON Circle Members and Senators on specific introductory flights on which Allegris advance seat reservations remain free of charge.
Extra Space Seat
The Extra Space Seat offers an exceptional amount of room. The spacious single seat with more space is perfect for relaxing, working, and dining. The generous extra storage space gives you easy access to your personal belongings, documents, and much more.
The price for an Extra Space Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination.
HON Circle Members and Senators can reserve an Extra Space Seat free of charge.
Extra Long Bed
The Extra Long Bed offers plenty of space for those who wish to enjoy their flight to the full. The seat has an extra long, 2.2-meter bed to ensure a relaxing night’s sleep. A flexible screen between the seats gives you greater privacy.
The price for an Extra Long Bed depends on the length of your flight and your destination.
HON Circle Members can reserve an Extra Long Bed free of charge.
Privacy Seat
A Privacy Seat offers a high degree of privacy right by the window. The distance from the aisle provides more comfort and peace and quiet, like a personal retreat above the clouds.
The price for a Privacy Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination.
Selecting a Privacy Seat is free of charge when you book a Business Flex fare and can be booked for a fee in other fares.
And if you are travelling with an infant: the Privacy Seat in the last row can also be fitted with a baby bassinet.

Classic Seat
The redesigned classic: the Business Class Classic Seat offers you everything you need for a comfortable flight. Pleasant privacy, always with direct aisle access, with access to the window and an open lounge atmosphere – designed simply for relaxation.
All seats have an integrated flexible privacy screen with storage and shelves for your drinks, clothes, or your latest reading matter. You can select a Classic Seat free of charge.
You will experience the greatest comfort on long-haul flights and the highest levels of privacy and comfort. In First Class, you can select your seat free of charge.
Lufthansa Allegris seats
Lufthansa Allegris is our promise to focus even more on you as our guest. That’s why we have redesigned our seats, cabins, and services from scratch. The first aircraft with this new travel experience will be joining our fleet from autumn 2024. Suite Plus
Whether you’re travelling alone or as a couple, the spacious and private Suite Plus offers everything you could wish for. Look forward to plenty of room, a wardrobe en suite, a large mirror, and maximum privacy to work or relax, with two individually controlled extra-wide seats that can be converted into a spacious single or a double bed.
The price for a Suite Plus depends on the length of your flight and your destination.

Suite
A private suite with fully closable doors and 1.80-meter-high partitions gives you maximum privacy. Simply close the door and enjoy the view above the clouds. The extra-wide seat converts at night into a spacious bed to ensure you enjoy a relaxing night’s sleep.
You may book the First Class Suite free of charge.
Further information and details about advance seat reservation
- The flight must be operated by Lufthansa Group airlines, Lufthansa Regional (Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa CityLine), Lufthansa Express Rail (DB), Edelweiss, or Discover Airlines.
- Your flight booking is confirmed (no waiting list bookings).
- If you did not select your seat during the booking process, you can also do so after completing your booking. Access your trip under My bookings, and book or change your seat there.

Please note that a confirmed advance seat reservation does not guarantee you a specific seat on board the aircraft (e.g. seat 3A). It only refers to the category selected (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat, etc.). An advance seat reservation applies to a single leg of your flight.
In the unlikely event of an evacuation you will be expected to assist in the opening of the emergency door.
Therefore passengers sitting in an exit row must:
- be over the age of 16 years
- be fit, strong and able to assist in the unlikely event of an evacuation of the aircraft during an emergency
- be able to understand instructions given in English
- be willing to assist in the unlikely event of an emergency
- have the capability to perform the required tasks without assistance of a companion, parent or other relatives
- not have a condition or responsibility that might prevent them from performing these functions or cause them to suffer bodily harm while performing these functions
- not be pregnant
- not be travelling with someone who needs their assistance in an emergency
- not be travelling with a baby
- not be travelling with a pet in the cabin
Our airport staff/cabin crew will verify that each passenger meets the emergency exit row seating requirements. Our airport staff/cabin crew is entitled to allocate another seat to passengers not meeting the necessary requirements.
Please also note that any hand luggage must be stowed in the overhead lockers because no objects must be in the seating area or under the seats of an emergency exit row.
Flights operated by the Lufthansa Group, Lufthansa Regional (Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa CityLine) and Discover Airlines
HON Circle Members and Senators who are travelling with up to eight people on the same booking number can reserve seats free of charge in all booking classes (except on the Economy Basic and Light fare on short-haul flights). With the Economy Basic and Light fare, the option of selecting a seat free of charge is only available on short-haul flights to HON Circle Members during online check-in.
Flights operated by Edelweiss
HON Circle Members who are travelling with up to eight people on the same booking number can reserve seats free of charge in all booking classes.
If we have to change the seat you reserved in advance (e.g. for operational reasons), we will endeavour to reserve an equivalent new seat for you. In such cases, priority is given to passengers who are travelling together, e.g. families sitting next to one another. After this, seats with extra legroom in the emergency exit rows, aisle, window and then middle seats will be allocated in that order.
If we cannot allocate a seat in the same category (e.g. by the aisle, window, or a seat with extra legroom), you can arrange a refund of the fee paid via the Lufthansa Service Center.
If you have an existing advance seat reservation, you can rebook or cancel your ticket easily and conveniently yourself via “My bookings”.
Please note that a confirmed advance seat reservation does not guarantee you a specific seat on board the aircraft (e.g. seat 3A). The advance seat reservation refers to the chosen seat category (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat, etc.).
An advance seat reservation applies to a single leg of your flight.
Please note that advance seat reservations are not refundable, either at the airport or on board.
When you book a seat in an emergency exit row, you must be able to meet the legal requirements. These will be explained to you during the booking process. Should you not meet these requirements, you will be allocated a different seat and you are not entitled to a refund.
If your advance seat reservation is changed unexpectedly, the following cancellation and refund conditions apply:
In the event of an operational change (e.g. a change of aircraft type or travel route), we will try to rebook you in the same seat category you have previously booked. However, the seat number you chose before may change. If we are unable to rebook you in the same seat category, your advance seat reservation is refundable.
Your advance seat reservation is also refundable if we cancel your flight.
If you make changes to your booking yourself, the following conditions apply to cancellations and refunds:
Changing your advance seat reservation without changing your flight
If you have made an advanced seat reservation for your flight and wish to change your seat, price differences may occur regardless of the selected seat category. If the price for the newly selected seat is higher, the difference must be paid.
Changing your advance seat reservation and your flight
If you change your flight and the route remains the same, you can transfer your advance seat reservation to the new flight.
This can result in price differences regardless of the seat category selected. If the price for the newly selected seat is higher, the price difference must be paid.
Should you also change your flight route, you may incur additional costs.
Refund for your advance seat reservation without your flight being refunded
Advance seat reservations alone are not refunded. However, if you have purchased an upgrade to a higher travel class, the advance seat reservation you previously purchased is refundable. Free upgrades that we offer as a goodwill gesture or for operational reasons do not entitle you to a refund for your prior advance seat reservation.
Refund of your advance seat reservation together with the cancellation and refund of the flight
A refund of the advance seat reservation together with a flight cancellation is possible if the fare conditions allow for a refund.
Please note that for unused tickets, the following refund conditions apply:
Continental routes:
If your first flight allows for a refund, but the second flight does not, a refund for the second flight and advance seat reservation is not possible.
If your second flight allows for a refund, the ticket and advance seat reservation can be refunded in the event of a cancellation.
Intercontinental routes:
Just as the fare conditions of a flight leg do not allow for a refund, the advance seat reservation for the unused leg is also non-refundable, regardless of whether this is the outbound or return flight.
If you are travelling with children between the ages of two and 11, we will do our best to seat your child next to an adult in your group. These seats are allocated free of charge at check-in. You can, of course, reserve seats for your family in advance for a fee to ensure that you are all sitting together.
For Lufthansa Allegris flights in Business Class especially, we strongly recommend that you reserve your seats early, as there are only limited options available for you to sit together.
On flights to and from Canada, if we are not able to seat your child near an adult in your group, you can rebook your flight or cancel your trip.
Under the regulations of ENAC (Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile [Italian Civil Aviation Authority]), we would like to make you aware that you are entitled to free advance seat reservations on flights to and from Italy if you fulfil the following conditions:
- you are travelling with a child between the ages of two and 12; and/or
- you are a passenger with a disability or are accompanying a passenger with a disability.
The Lufthansa Group will then seat you together free of charge at check-in.
