Not many travelers have discovered the beauty of Bulgaria. The east European country is mostly known for its beautiful coast on the Black Sea. The highly developed sea resorts of the northern Varna region and the southern Bourgas region leave nothing to desire for the fan of beach life and relaxing in the sun. But the fans of wellness will also find themselves in paradise, because Bulgaria has more than 800 mineral springs with different curative effects, many of them along the northern Black Sea Coast. Especially in Varna, biggest city on the coast, mineral water sources abound. Here you can also find the archeological sensation of the Varna Culture, dating from 5500 BC and the first known culture to make gold jewelry, taking up four rooms in the Archeological Museum of Varna. Also on the coast is the beautiful Palace of Balchik, with a breathtaking botanical park attached.
Bulgaria is not just a very beautiful coastline, though, it also features a mountain landscape that is great for winter sports. But also in summer it is a wonderful place for hiking and mountain biking. Why not make the best smelling tour ever and visit the Rose Valleys of the Stryama and Tundhza Rivers. From the roman ruins of Nicopolis and Istrum to the beautiful Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration of God and the fortress of medieval Bulgarian Kings here is history in abundance.
If you are more into city trips, have a look at the capital Sofia in the mountainous area of western Bulgaria. It is named after its Patron Saint Sofia, who has the oldest church of the Town to her name, dating back to the 3rd century AD. There is also a gigantic Statue of St. Sofia in the center of the City. Another great monument is the old roman amphitheater of Serdica, the only one in all of the Roman Empire that combines theater and amphitheater. The excavated ruins are now inside a hotel and have been most interestingly incorporated into the hotels architecture. Of course Sofia has also a whole range of bars, clubs and restaurants for a night on the town, when the sightseeing is done.
