A Perfect Day: Bengaluru in One Day
Sightseeing, sampling local specialties, and admiring saris – all part of an ideal day in Bengaluru for flight attendant Maite Hummel. Here, she reveals the other spots she likes to take a tuk-tuk to
9 AM: Taking a tuk-tuk to get breakfast
Of course, I could have breakfast at the hotel, but I prefer to take a tuk-tuk to a branch of the classic MTR restaurant. Here they serve idli, steamed cakes made from Urdu beans and rice. A perfect start to a perfect day.
10 AM: Bengaluru Palace & Vidhana Soudha
Two absolute highlights are now on my agenda. First, I visit Bengaluru Palace, a European-style Tudor palace with a magnificent garden. Afterwards, a short tuk-tuk ride takes me to the Vidhana Soudha, a monumental government building.

1 PM: Relaxing in a jungle
Time for a relaxing hour in Cubbon Park, a kind of jungle in the middle of the city. Very relaxing!
2:30 PM: Shopping at Chickpet Market
Let’s go shopping. At the traditional Chickpet Market, you can find everything from antiques to street food and spices.
4 PM: Visiting a temple
The Bull Temple is a must-see for temple lovers. It is home to a huge statue of Nandi, the companion of the god Shiva.
5 PM: Drinking masala chai
Just let yourself drift – Bengaluru is a wonderful place to do so. Be sure to have a masala chai (tea) at one of the many street stalls.
6 PM: Admiring saris
Commercial Street is a fantastic place to shop. My favorite shop is the Mysore Saree Udyog Store, which has an impressive selection of saris.
8 PM: Feasting on local specialties
Back in the tuk-tuk and off to dinner. At Oota Bangalore, you feast on oota – a rice dish with lots of side dishes, served on a banana leaf.
