Green fares: fly more sustainably

Carbon neutral by 2050. That is the ambitious goal that Lufthansa and the Lufthansa Group have set themselves. A goal that is worth every effort. To achieve it, we want to reduce our CO2 emissions from aviation as much as possible. Therefore we are investing in new, more fuel-efficient aircraft, constantly optimising our flight operations and increasing our use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). One outcome en route to our goal are our Flying more sustainable with the Green Fares—an option that makes more sustainable travel possible throughout Europe and selected intercontinental routes*.

Reduce and offset: Green Fares throughout Europe

The choice of our Economy Green and Business Green fares will reduce 20% of flight-related CO2 emissions by the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and offset the remaining 80% of the CO2 emissions by an equivalent contribution to high-quality climate protection projects. This 20/80 combination of reduction and offsetting is firmly linked to our Green Fares on European flights and enables more sustainable flying.

Green Fares for selected intercontinental routes

To further expand our European offer, we are now extending our Green Fares to selected intercontinental routes, enabling you to travel more sustainably.

Choosing a Green Fare, be it Economy Green, Business Green, Premium Eco Green or First Green, reduces your individual flight related CO2 emissions of that flight by 10% through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The remaining 90% of the individual flight-related CO2 emissions are offset through a contribution to climate protection projects.

Available on the following routes: Frankfurt — Bangalore (FRA—BCR), Munich — Incheon (MUC—ICN), Brussels — Kinshasa (BRU— FIH), Zurich — Los Angeles (ZRH—LAX), Frankfurt — Miami (FRA— MIA), Singapore — London (SIN—LON), Säo Paulo — Zurich (GRU—ZRH), Nairobi — Frankfurt (NBO—FRA), Bangkok — Vienna (BKK—VIE), Hong Kong — London (HKG—LON), Paris — Bangkok (PAR-BKK).

Green fare on SWISS domestic flights

SWISS now offers its passengers on all domestic flights between Zurich and Geneva solely fares that already include the offsetting of CO2 emissions. This is done through a standard combination of 20% for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and an 80% contribution to high-quality climate protection projects. In addition, passengers on these domestic flights can also choose from a Green fare with an even higher level of SAF, where the flight-related CO2 emissions are reduced by 50% by using sustainable aviation fuel, and the remaining 50% are offset by the investment in climate protection projects.

The adjusted fares can only be booked for flights between Geneva and Zurich and do not apply to feeder or connecting flights.
