Lufthansa Allegris Crew Check: A Flight Attendant Shares Her First Experience on Board
Flight attendant Katrin Zintl had the honor of joining Lufthansa Allegris’ maiden flight on a Boeing 787 from Frankfurt to Toronto and was just as thrilled as the guests on board. Here, she shares how Lufthansa Allegris creates an entirely new feeling of long-haul travel
I’ve been working as a flight attendant for Lufthansa for more than nine years now – and I’ve experienced countless wonderful moments. October 21 was one of those truly special days. I was part of the christening ceremony for the Boeing 787 "Dreamliner", now equipped with Lufthansa’s new Allegris cabin design, as part of the airline’s fleet renewal. The speeches by CEO Carsten Spohr and Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein, the atmosphere around and inside the aircraft, and the new Lufthansa Allegris seating concept – even for a long-time crew member like me, it was an unforgettable event.
A New Chapter in the History of Boeing and Lufthansa
Just two weeks earlier, I had already flown on this aircraft from Frankfurt to Toronto. It was the first time my crew and I got to experience Lufthansa Allegris together. I’m proud to be part of this new chapter we’re writing with our new aircraft. In a special training course dedicated to Lufthansa Allegris, I learned the new workflows and familiarized myself with the many onboard innovations.
Every single seat has received an upgrade with Lufthansa Allegris. For example, Economy Class now features more ergonomic seating, larger 4K-resolution screens, USB charging ports, and tablet holders. Passengers can also connect their own headphones via Bluetooth to the in-flight entertainment system. That not only simplifies our service but also helps the environment by reducing the number of disposable headphones required on each flight.
Allegris completely redefines the sense of space on board. For example, the center seats in Business Class no longer have overhead storage bins, creating a new feeling of openness and lightness. There’s no solid wall between Premium Economy and Economy Class anymore, just a transparent cabin divider. The lighting design, with its various light scenarios, makes the cabin feel warm and inviting. This so-called human-centric lighting isn’t just pleasant – it’s scientifically proven to help reduce jet lag. Depending on the time of flight and service phase, the light becomes warmer and redder to promote relaxation, or cooler and bluer to energize passengers.
Comfort Comes First
What else makes Lufthansa Allegris so special? The new sense of privacy in Business Class, thanks to partition walls between the seats. The individual seating comfort has also been significantly improved. I now have direct access to every passenger, allowing for a more personal and relaxed service experience. It’s a smoother workflow, as I can reach my guests without having to lean over others. The seats also offer more storage space for hand luggage, laptops, personal items, as well as food and drinks. For example, business travelers don’t have to store their laptop immediately when the meal is served — they can simply place it on the side shelf of their seat. It’s convenient for passengers and makes service easier for us, too.
To me, Lufthansa Allegris represents a completely new and more personal travel experience for our guests — one that conveys calm, comfort, and appreciation for every single passenger from takeoff to landing. Lufthansa truly understands what people need onboard. On my flight to Toronto, I saw so many pleasantly surprised and happy faces. That’s exactly what my job is about: safety in the skies, and passengers who feel completely at ease with us.
