In Amsterdam’s trendy De Pijp district, the locals hang out at the Albert Cuyp market. With around 260 stalls selling everything from flowers and cheese to clothes and bric-a-brac, the market is so popular that it is not completely hidden from tourists. But the mix of people is the beauty of it all, everyone is open and gets talking to each other here: tourists with locals, old with young, the well-to-do with bargain hunters.

What you definitely have to try at the market is stroopwafels. These are two thin, crispy waffles held together by a caramel filling. They are particularly good at Rudi’s Original Stroopwafels.
