Inspired by Lufthansa Allegris: Sketching Serenity
From Copenhagen to San Diego via Munich: British illustrator Daniel Frost turned the Lufthansa Allegris Business Class Suite into his personal art studio at 30,000 feet. Inspired by the cabin’s thoughtful design and the serene atmosphere on board, Frost created a unique piece of art during his long-haul journey across the Atlantic
"I always draw when I travel," says Daniel Frost. "It’s my way of discovering and understanding a new place." For the British illustrator, capturing fleeting thoughts and moments mid-journey is second nature. His notebooks – filled with doodles, notes, and sketches – often spark inspiration for larger creative projects like books, games, paintings, and even sculptures. It won't be a big change for Frost to create a work of art during his trip to San Diego. The new experience: a flight with Lufthansa Allegris.
Frost's enthusiasm for drawing and illustration began early in his childhood. His parents read picture books and comics to him and his little brother. The siblings also created stories and drew pictures to make each other laugh. "That's what I love about illustrations," says Frost. "That you can make something up and bring it to life – just with a pencil and a bit of paper."
This time, he was flying with Lufthansa Allegris, and his mission was to let the design of the new Business Class inspire his next artwork.

The journey began in Copenhagen, where Frost lives and works, and continued through Munich. From Gate L21 at Munich Airport "Franz Josef Strauß," he boarded the flight to San Diego. Escorted to his seat 8K in Lufthansa Allegris Business Class by a crew member, Frost's eyes lit up with a certain childlike joy as he explores the generous living space of his Single Suite and its amenities: the generous storage space and personal wardrobe, the noise-cancelling headphones and the 27-inch monitor. There’s even a cooled minibar behind the 1.4 metre-high privacy screen and the ergonomically shaped seat can not only be adjusted to different positions using a ten-inch tablet, but also be heated or cooled to preference. Soon after takeoff, the creative process begins.
While the azure sky shines in through the window, pens, pads, and pieces of paper with notes and sketches fill the space around him. Frost’s signature warm yellows, oranges, and muted blues start to take form, echoing the calm tones of the cabin itself. "I see it as a challenge to create a large work of art," says Frost. "To master such a challenge, I create many small versions until I have convinced myself that I can do it."
And he did – even at cruising altitude. In the quiet comfort of Lufthansa Allegris and the highest possible privacy of his Single Suite, Frost was free to imagine. In his final illustration, the aircraft window becomes a setting sun. The privacy screen transforms into a flowing ocean. A relaxed traveller appears to be floating, fully stretched out, weightless in comfort. "You can’t see the body," Frost explains. "It’s like it’s drifting, completely immersed in a state of relaxation."

After more than five hours of sketching, Frost pauses. "Flying is like daydreaming for me," he says. "Perfect for letting your mind wander – thinking about where you've been and where you're going. A wonderful place for inspiration!"
More artists will soon take off with Lufthansa Allegris, turning journeys into stories. Stay tuned for more inspiration!
