A Perfect Day: Johannesburg in One Day
Flight attendant Farah Benkassem reveals her perfect day in Johannesburg
9 AM: Breakfast at Tashas
I always go straight to the day's agenda when I arrive in Johannesburg. That's possible because the time difference from Germany is only one hour at most. No jet lag, but more time for a leisurely breakfast. My favorite spot for that is Tashas, a classy oasis with blue velvet sofas in the business district of Melrose Arch. I usually order an avocado milkshake and a steak sandwich. Sounds unusual for breakfast, but meat in the kitchen is very important in Johannesburg. I sit on the terrace and watch people on their way to the office or shopping.

11 AM: Arts and crafts shopping in Rosebank
Time to browse, perhaps? The Rosebank neighborhood, with its shopping malls and galleries, is in the northern part of downtown. Right next to the Rosebank Mall is the entrance to the Art & Craft Market. Here you can find crafts from all over Africa, from Nelson Mandela portraits in oil to carved figures of the Big Five animals, traditional jewelry made of bone or beads, and small pieces of furniture. It's a lovely market to stroll around, and since it's covered and monitored, I always feel safe here.

Our recommendations
5 PM: Dinner at Grill House Marble
I like to start my evenings in Joburg with a cocktail in the hotel bar. It's just very relaxing. My preferred dinner spot is Marble, also in Rosebank – a spacious grill house with a long marble counter and an open kitchen. Reservation recommended! Through the windows, you can watch the sunset over the suburbs while having an aperitif. They cook here over an open fire. I can highly recommend the Coal-Fired Rib-Eye with their in-house Jack Daniel's sauce!

9 PM: Live music at Katzy's
And then it's off to Katzy's, a popular live music bar where bands play great blues, smooth jazz, and hits from the Motown era. It's open-ended here – everyone has to decide for themselves when to call it a night!
