Flights to Los Angeles: California calling
Enjoy your Lufthansa flight to Los Angeles, second biggest town of the USA and the biggest by far on the west coast. Between Hollywood and Venice Beach many clichés about California have their roots. Now you can see what is urban myth and what is reality.
Eternal sunshine in Los Angeles“El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Ángeles”, village of the queen of the angels, was the original name of Los Angeles in 1781. It took a while until the city started its phenomenal growth, when the railway lines were established, the oil fields under the city were discovered and when the Los Angeles Aqueduct was built to ensure water supply for the city. The never-ending sunshine lured the early movie industry from New York and Chicago to Los Angeles and they set up their studios in the newly suburbanized Hollywood. It is here that most visitors start to explore Los Angeles: with the Walk of Fame, Mann´s Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Sign.
Beaches and buildings in L.A.Los Angeles has hundreds of miles of beaches, some of them are famous landmarks known all over the world. Venice Beach and the bodybuilders training there is an icon, but the actual neighborhood with its little canals is also worth exploring. Santa Monica Beach and the Santa Monica Pier are a great destination for a day on the beach. Malibu Beach is a paradise for star spotters who have already done Beverly Hills and Bel Air. For the fans of art and culture the Walt Disney Concert Hall, built by architect Frank Gehry, is a hot spot in L.A., as is the Los Angeles Music Center. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum can keep art aficionados busy for days in a row. If you travel with kids, there is no way around the many amusement parks like Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm. One of the best views over the city can be found at the Griffith Observatory, in the middle of the biggest Park in L.A., the Griffith Park.
