What Rome (ROM) has to offer

Your flight to Rome from London

Welcome to Rome with one of our great Lufthansa flights from London. To see even the most essential sights of the ancient city, you may need free time for the next week or so. The Colosseum, the Forum Romanum, the Pantheon, Trajan’s Column or the Circus Maximus are just a few of the well-known landmarks of ancient Rome, many more are waiting to be discovered. The mighty aqueducts, that brought fresh water to every household and public fountain and powered a thousand watermills of the bakeries in ancient Rome, are still standing all over the city and the surrounding areas.

Go underground in Rome

Every road leads to Rome, and when you are actually there, you can see that this is true: the extended net of Roman roads that spanned three continents had the city at its centre. Take a walk on one of the many Roman roads still working today, like the Appian Way from Rome to Brindisi. On a hot summer day, visit the catacombs of early Christianity, which are scattered all around the city. The underground labyrinths of graves and community rooms are a great way to spend time in a cool place. Art lovers are in for some special treats, not only for masterpieces of the Roman Empire, but also for Renaissance masterworks. Michelangelo and other genius artists did not only work on the St. Peters Basilica in the Vatican, centre of the Catholic faith. In the little Church San Pietro in Vincoli there is one of Michelangelo’s finest works, “Moses.” You can find Caravaggio’s “Madonna of the Pilgrims,” frescoes by Giotto, paintings by Raphael and wonderful Byzantine mosaics. The churches of Rome contain so much art that it would takes weeks to see it all.

Feel like home in Rome

The Spanish Steps between Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti are usually full of ice-cream eating locals and tourists. The Trevi Fountain, the biggest fountain of Rome and arguably the most famous fountain in the world, is another must-see item. Tourists throw coins into the fountain, because they believe this ensures their return to Rome one day. Go for a walk through the small alleys of the lively Trastevere, Romes favourite desination for a night out on the Piazza Santa Maria. Try some typical food, like a Roman bruschetta, a baccalà alla romana or penne all'arrabbiata. If you didn’t get to see and all you wanted in Rome eternal city, there will always another Lufthansa flight from Londo to Rome.
