New destinations from Frankfurt

Starting point of Italian coastal adventures

Just north of Pisa, directly on the Italian Riviera, lie the Cinque Terre. Five old fishing villages line up here along the steeply sloping coastline, and even the way there is a worthwhile destination. The small coastal footpath along the cliffs delights with a unique view. But Pisa offers travellers much more and is one of the most popular starting points for exploring Tuscany's historical and culinary significance.

640 kilometres of Irish coast

Summer in Ireland? Time for a coastal hike! To Ballycotton, for example, which is perfect as a day trip destination from Cork. Here, quaint fish restaurants and unspoilt beaches await extensive walks on balmy Irish summer days.

The best sights between England and Wales

A cool drink with a panoramic view over the Clifton quarter and the famous bridge, or a street art tour through Banksy's home. The cultural stronghold in the southwest of England combines the coolness of London with the beauty of Oxford and lets history buffs and pub lovers get their money's worth. And if you want more: the forests of South Wales, Stonehenge or the Cotswolds, the heart of England, are only an hour away.

Ocean sounds with extravagance

Breton Nantes is always worth a visit and lies not far from the Atlantic coast. Those who long for idyllic Brittany and wide ocean should definitely make a day trip to the small fishing village of Le Croisic. This is said to have the best fish cuisine in France: Oysters, shrimps, lobster or crabs, here everything is freshly caught and prepared in the Breton style.

Gateway to the fjords

Surrounded by seven mountains, the old Hanseatic city of Bergen offers visitors a fantastic panoramic view of the neighbouring fjords. The best known is probably the deep blue, UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord. And with a length of 205 kilometres and a depth of over 1300 metres, the Sognefjord to the south is one of the most impressive in the world. Both fjords are still visited today by the old mail boat line, the Hurtigruten.

Kerkyra (Corfu)

Dream beaches as far as the eye can see

Corfu Town, called Kerkyra by the Corfiots, is located in the east of the island, which is characterised by acacia, olive and citrus trees. Its countless beaches have made Corfu famous. One of the most beautiful is the kilometre-long sandy beach "Glyfada" in the west, lined by densely overgrown hills. In the north of the island, sandstone and rocky cliffs form small bays with picturesque sandy beaches. Here, daring swimmers can explore caves lying under the rocks.

Living European diversity

This is where the Adriatic Sea begins, with its crystal-clear waters and mysterious caves. In the 3-country corner around Trieste, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia are only a few kilometres apart. Although Trieste is almost completely surrounded by neighbouring Slovenia, the Italian flair can be felt everywhere here. A trip to the neighbouring capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, or to the famous Istrian peninsula is also worthwhile.

Ponta Delgada (Azores)

Capital of relaxation

Ponta Delgada combines all the things you don't think of when you hear "capital city": peace, serenity, relaxation. The city on São Miguel, the largest island of the Azores, lets its visitors breathe deeply. The Portuguese city with its Mediterranean life can be easily explored on foot, including the worth seeing and somewhat more remote caves on the outskirts of the city.

The Treasure of Kvarner Bay

Welcome to the impressive Kvarner Bay. Between the Istrian peninsula and the Croatian mainland lies one of the most beautiful stretches of the Adriatic and right in the middle of it: Rijeka. The Croatian port city became the European Capital of Culture in 2020 - and for good reason: with its historic old town around the Korzo, the pulsating promenade that combines coffee house flair and Mediterranean ambience, the metropolis offers everything you could wish for in a relaxing city break. Including the proximity to Croatia's most beautiful beaches and islands.

Lamezia Terme

The undiscovered Italy

The famous yet unknown tip of Italy's boot: Calabria. Wild mountainous countryside, enchanting sandy beaches and culinary treasures - far from mass tourism, Calabria is the perfect destination for sun-seekers, for friends of Italian cuisine and a paradise for nature lovers. The young city of Lamezia Terme, just a few kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast, is ideal for discovering this unknown Italy for yourself.

New destinations from Munich

The Greek Sun Island

Rhodes is considered the sunniest region in Europe. The island surprises with an enormous variety: from dreamy sandy beaches to cultural sights and very special leisure activities, Rhodes offers something for every taste. Special tip: the "Butterfly Valley". Here - especially from June to September - hundreds of thousands of butterflies gather in a gorge about one kilometre long.

Holidays between the North Sea and Kattegat

Aarhus, Copenhagen's little sister on the mainland, has been worth a visit at least since its election as European Capital of Culture 2017. In Denmark's second largest city, colourful, quaint streets of houses meet modern architecture and hip street food meets pub culture. The former Viking settlement is the perfect starting point to begin a typical Danish holiday home holiday on the long beaches and in the idyllic nature of Jutland.

Refreshing climate and exciting mountain scenery

In the north of Italy, in Piedmont, lies Cuneo. In addition to historical buildings worth seeing and the unique mountain panorama of the Maritime Alps, the proximity to the Ligurian coast makes the city a versatile destination. Between clear mountain lakes and the Italian Riviera, a very special Italian cuisine has developed in this varied region, with the famous white truffles of Alba and high-quality wines.

Green Bella Italia

From the Adriatic coast to the mountains of the Apennines stretches a varied landscape with lots of nature, quaint villages and famous towns. In the middle of it all lies Forli. The city on the Via Emilia is the green heart of Romagna - and also a bit of a culinary one. The famous specialities of Emilia-Romagna, Grana Padano, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese or the vegetable cake Erbazzone are a reason to travel.

Two of the famous windmills in Mykonos, Greece during a clear and bright summer sunny day

Darling of the Cyclades

Mykonos is indeed as beautiful as it looks on numerous motifs - not for nothing is the old town one of the most photographed places in Greece. Mikri Venetia, the little Venice and the windmills of Kato Myli are also among the highlights of this Cycladic island. Mykonos is very popular - but away from the capital, for example in Ano Mera, a more original image of the island has nevertheless been preserved.

Between Meze and the Mediterranean

Culinary and culturally, Cyprus is characterised by Arabic and Mediterranean influences. Whether wellness in a hamam bath, wine walks and delicious snacks called meze, or a dive off the island's coast - Cyprus has something for everyone. Especially for those who long for peace and relaxation on dreamy beaches like in Lara Bay. Incidentally, the Akamas Peninsula is considered one of the few places in the Mediterranean where even sea turtles bury their eggs on its relatively quiet stretches of beach.
