Whether it’s Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kitzbühel, Zillertal or Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, from Munich the most beautiful ski areas in Germany and the Tyrol are never far away. On this page, we have compiled information for you about the best winter sports resorts.

World championship fun on the slopes: Garmisch-Partenkirchen

If you are the sort of person who likes to be active in the winter, you’ll think you’re in paradise high above the Winter Olympics ski town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A spectacular alpine panorama stretches out before you, and below you are the ski resorts with the most reliable snow in Germany, legendary pistes and convenient runs.

Even when the winter mists hang over the valley, the Zugspitze glacier ski resort, with its 20 km of pistes, rises like an island of sunshine out of the sea of clouds. The Garmisch-Classic ski resort links the Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Alpspitze skiing mountains with each other. Here, both beginners and ski aces will find their perfect runs.

A special highlight: the challenging World Cup downhill slope, Kandahar!

The ultimate place to ski: Kitzbühel

The Hahnenkamm World Cup Races are not the only unique thing about Kitzbühel: in 2017, the Tyrolean skiing region of Kitzbühel/Kirchberg was again selected by ‘Skiresort.de’ – the world’s largest ski resort test portal – as the ‘Best ski resort in the world’ for the fifth time running.

But what is it that really makes this region a hotspot for skiers and winter sports enthusiasts? On the one hand, there’s the 215 km of superbly groomed downhill runs suitable for pros and novices alike, the 54 comfortable high-tech lifts, the certainty of snow from October to May and the unspoiled countryside into which freeriders and ski-tourers can set out directly from their hotels. And on the other hand, there is a very special joie de vivre in ‘Kitz’ that has fascinated ski fans for years. It’s just the ultimate place to be for winter sports fans!
