Terms and conditions of participation for a Lufthansa Gift Card

1. General
Lufthansa Gift Card are an offer from Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft, Venloer Straße 151-153, 50672 Köln, Germany (referred to below as ‘Lufthansa’). The Gift Card are vouchers that are offered on Lufthansa.com. These general terms and conditions of Lufthansa apply to contracts for the purchase of vouchers on the internet.
People who accept this offer (referred to below as ‘user’) have the option of using the value to book a flight at a later date as well as for selected additional services on Lufthansa.com.
These terms and conditions of use apply to the use of the voucher. In addition to these terms of use, the General Terms and Conditions of Carriage of Lufthansa shall apply at all times.
2. Receipt of the Gift Card
Gift Card can only be purchased at Lufthansa.com. Gift Card are not issued via ticket offices, ticket counters or travel agents.
By ordering a Gift Card, the user makes a binding offer to conclude a contract which requires acceptance by Lufthansa. Acceptance of the offer by Lufthansa is confirmed by means of a confirmation email to the customer to the email address specified in the course of the order process.
Gift Card may be paid for by any credit card accepted by Lufthansa. As soon as Lufthansa has received payment in full, a confirmation email is sent to the email address specified in the course of the order process. The email contains a PDF file including the voucher code.
Gift Card are issued in euros.
3. Cancellation
The customer has the right to cancel the Gift Card within 14 days without giving reasons. This period begins on receipt of the confirmation email, through which the contract came into effect. Sending notice of cancellation before the deadline shall suffice for compliance with the deadline. However, the right to cancel expires even before the end of the 14-day period as soon as the Gift Card has been redeemed, even if only partially.
Any benefits obtained must be returned when exercising the right to cancel. In the event of cancellation of the Gift Card, Lufthansa shall void the voucher code on the Gift Card and refund the value of the Gift Card.
4. Conditions for using the Gift Card
Gift Card can only be redeemed for flight bookings made directly on Lufthansa.com. A Gift Card can only be redeemed directly at the time of booking and cannot be offset retroactively. Up to three Gift Card or vouchers can be redeemed in a single booking.
Unless otherwise stated on the Gift Card, the Gift Card is valid from the time of issue until the end of the year in which it has been issued and then for a further three years thereafter (e.g. issue date 21.8.2025 with validity until 31.12.2028).
The Gift Card must not be sold. The Gift Card is transferable to another person. The holder of the Gift Card therefore does not have to be the passenger of the ticket to be purchased.
If the Gift Card value exceeds the purchase price of the ticket, the remaining value of the voucher can be used for further purchases within the term of validity of the issued Gift Card.
If the amount of the Gift Card is not sufficient to purchase a new flight in full, the difference can be paid by credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express) during the flight booking process.
The Gift Card can only be used for booking flights with a Lufthansa flight number (e.g. LH123).
5. Flight booking and redeeming the Gift Card
Once the Gift Card is used, its validity expires for the amount used.
If tickets paid for with a Gift Card are cancelled in accordance with the legal or fare conditions and a refund is applied for, the refund value is transferred back to the Gift Card.
Customers are advised to protect the Gift Card from access by third parties to prevent misuse. Because the Gift Card are not personalised, only knowledge of the voucher code is required to redeem the Gift Card. In particular, the previous holder is therefore able to continue to use the voucher code if a Gift Card is transferred.
6. Refunds
The value of Gift Card cannot be refunded in cash as any other payment. This does not affect the provisions under section 4.
7. Liability
The liability of Lufthansa to compensate users is excluded, providing the claim is based on minor negligence. This does not apply in the event of a breach of duty which the contract must provide for in accordance with its meaning and purpose, or the fulfilment of which allows the proper performance of the contract and on compliance with which users may generally rely. If Lufthansa is liable in principle, the claim for compensation shall be limited to the typical contractual and foreseeable damages (value of the established service).
The limitations of liability do not apply in the event of injury to life, limb or health, in the case of gross negligence or wilful intent by employees, vicarious agents or legal representatives of Lufthansa, as well as in the case of legally stipulated liability irrespective of fault or any guarantees undertaken.
Lufthansa does not accept any liability for incorrect information provided in the course of registration or purchase of the voucher on Lufthansa.com for which Lufthansa is not responsible, such as typos, for example in email addresses. In particular, Lufthansa does not issue replacement vouchers.
Lufthansa shall not be liable for losses or damages to the customer that arise due a third party making bookings unlawfully by quoting the correct voucher code.

9. Final provisions
These terms and conditions of participation and all legal relationships between users and Lufthansa are governed by German law (excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and private international law) unless another national law is mandatory.
