Lufthansa Allegris Destination #1

View from a train window of Chicago’s skyscrapers.

Photographer Nolis Anderson: This photo was taken on a bitterly cold winter’s day. I jumped on the L, the subway, to warm up and took this lucky shot. The winter sun was reflected in the facades of the tower blocks and shone in my face – as if to tell me to press the shutter button. For me, the photo is typical of the city, as it shows the perspective of an ordinary worker traveling home from work in the evening. As someone who was born and raised in the city, the motif therefore appealed to me. Also because the light in winter is simply magical. My favorite time to take photos.

Photographer Raul Ariano: When I don’t have a shoot, I stroll through the city and try to capture its diversity with my camera. I never stage my photos; I just let them happen. Like in this photo, which captures a moment in the early morning hours. Locals are flying traditional kites, and in the background are the highrise buildings of the financial district. The city thrives on contrasts. I think the photo captures the opposites well and shows how multifaceted the city is in this moment.

Hanging books above a street in San Francisco with painted houses on a sunny day

Photographer Soraya Matos: The art installation „Language of the Birds“ comprises 23 illuminated books suspended in such a way that they appear to glide like birds through the air. Below them, embedded in the sidewalk, are quotes and texts in various languages. „Language of the Birds“ celebrates the fusion of art, literature, and urban life. As I gazed upward with my camera in the warm afternoon sun, it was a moment of pure magic: the airborne books, the hues of the mural, the perfect blue of the sky, and the artistic vision coalesced into a magnificent scene.

People and reflections in a golden glass building in New York

Photographer Mary Kang: The city is loud and crowded, and everyone seems to be busy going about their daily lives in the urban canyons. This photo captures this typical feeling of sensory overload in the city very well for me. It was taken in one of the city‘s newest attractions: on the viewing platform of a skyscraper, which has been home to an art installation by Kenzo Digital since 2021. Visitors and skyscrapers are reflected in all directions, and you can feel the gigantic dimensions of the city. I was fascinated by how the evening sun bathed everything in a golden light, creating a warm feeling of togetherness.

Yellow rickshaw with film poster and mural in Bengaluru

Photographer Arindam Thokder: In the city, there is a lovely tradition: drivers decorate their vehicles with hand-painted images of film icons. The bright yellow auto rickshaw with the portrait and the painting of a girl on the green wall were worth a photo alone. Add to that the brilliantly blue sky of a late winter afternoon. When I stepped out of the metro station and saw this scene, I immediately knew that I could capture the essence of the city with it – its dynamism and love for everything colorful.

Photographer Stacy Keck: I took this photo in the desert garden of Balboa Park, one of the city's treasures with its museums, lush green spaces, and historic Spanish colonial architecture. The twining succulent is a species of Euphorbia that thrives in the local coastal desert climate. When the plants caught my eye, their structure struck me as almost sculptural – like something you'd see in a dream or a science fiction movie. I felt like I was looking into a hidden world, as if I had stumbled across something ancient and alive.

Photographer Henry Danner: I took this photo not too long after I moved to the city. I was actually exploring the vibrant uptown scene of my new home with my camera when I came across this subject. The image perfectly represents the serenity that I think the city as a whole exudes. In contrast to New York City, where I lived before, it is quite small, but growing rapidly. For all the tranquillity it offers, the city is also very dynamic. And simply beautiful – not least because of the colorful murals that can be found on many corners. The picture captures all of these qualities.
