When it comes to flying on Economy Basic fare on short- and medium-haul flights or on Economy Light fare, you will be allocated a seat automatically during online check-in. We strive to ensure your comfort on board, which is why we make every effort to assign your preferred seat whenever possible. However, for operational reasons, it may be necessary to adjust your seat within the same category.
Below, we curated a list of frequently asked questions, that will help you find the answers you need.
If you have booked an Economy Basic fare on short- and medium-haul flights or an Economy Light fare, the fare includes an initial automatic seat allocation. You cannot change the seat offered at check-in without additional costs.
If you would like to change the automatic seat allocation, you can make an advance seat reservation for a fee. Find further information, e.g. pricing, on our advance seat reservation page.
For flights operated by Lufthansa, you can add a seat reservation up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight.
Please note that advance seat reservations cannot be refunded at the airport or on board.
You are entitled to a free Classic Seat reservation for flights to and from Italy under ENAC regulations (Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile [Italian Civil Aviation Authority]), provided you fulfill one of the following conditions:
- you are travelling with a child between the ages of two and twelve and/or
- you are a passenger with a disability or accompanying a passenger with a disability.
We will assign you seats together at check-in free of charge.
On flights to and from Canada, if we are not able to seat your child near an adult in your group, you can rebook your flight or cancel your trip.
You can make an advance seat reservation for a fee if:
- you have booked a continental flight.
- your flight is operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian or Brussels Airlines.
- you would like to change the seat offered at check-in.
- seats are still available on the flight you are checking in to.
- you have a confirmed booking, are not on a waiting list and are accepted at check-in.
Exceptions:
Passengers who have already purchased an advance seat reservation can modify it free of charge.
With the Economy Basic fare on short- and medium-haul flights and on the Light fare, HON Circle Members have the option to select a seat free of charge on short-haul flights during online check-in.
Please find the terms and conditions for changes to your advance seat reservation below:
- A seat change is possible within Economy Class after payment of the amendment fee.
- The amendment fee applies per passenger per leg of the flight.
- The amendment fee entitles the passenger to change their seat to any seat that is still available.
- Passengers who are HON Circle Members and booked an Economy Basic fare on short- and medium-haul flights or on Light fare can change their initial seat reservation for a fee before online check-in.
- The amendment fee is payable once per leg of the flight. Multiple seat changes within the same category are permitted on the same leg of the trip.
Please note that the amendment fee does not create an entitlement to a specific selected seat (e.g. seat 3A). It only refers to the seat category selected (e.g. Classic Seat). Your seat may be changed due to operational reasons. In such a case, you can change seats free of charge. A refund due to seat change is not possible.
