Impact Fares: A fare that supports lower-emission aviation

Air travel connects people, cultures and economies and is therefore an indispensable part of a globalized world. This societal and economic value must go hand in hand with the ambition to further reduce aviation’s impact on the climate and the environment. To advance lower-emission and therefore more sustainable aviation, Lufthansa and the Lufthansa Group invest in new fuel-efficient aircraft, support the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and continuously improve operational efficiency.

Impact Fares complement these initiatives and give customers the opportunity to support this transition. The name “Impact” reflects the intended positive contribution of the measures supported. While the fare does not make an individual flight itself sustainable, it supports concrete measures that contribute to emission savings. These include the use of additional Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on future flights and selected climate protection projects that contribute to CO₂ avoidance or removal.

The Impact Fares continue the offer introduced in 2023 as the former “Green Fares” under a new name. The established benefits remain unchanged: Depending on the route and fare, customers support the use of SAF and selected climate protection projects while also benefiting from additional Miles & More miles and Points as well as the respective fare benefits. Impact Fares are available on flights within Europe and North Africa and on most intercontinental routes.

Contribute to future CO2 emission savings with Impact Fares throughout…

…Europe

By selecting an Economy Comfort Impact, Business Comfort Impact or Business Flex Impact fare, you support two measures: First, your contribution supports the use of additional Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), corresponding to 20% of your flight’s estimated CO₂ emissions. The amount of SAF is added to the Lufthansa Group network within six months after your flight and is not used on your individual flight.

Second, your contribution supports selected climate protection projects in Europe and worldwide that avoid emissions or remove and store CO₂ outside the aviation industry, such as reforestation or direct air capture projects, corresponding to 80% of your flight’s estimated CO₂ emissions.

Flying has further impacts on the climate beyond CO₂ emissions.

…the rest of the world

By selecting an Economy Impact, Premium Economy Impact, Business Impact or First Impact fare on intercontinental routes, you support two measures: First, your contribution supports the use of additional Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) corresponding to 10% of your flight’s estimated CO₂ emissions. The amount of SAF is added to the Lufthansa Group network within six months after your flight and is not used on your individual flight. Second, your contribution supports selected climate protection projects in Europe and worldwide that avoid emissions or remove and store CO₂ outside the aviation industry, such as reforestation or direct air capture projects, corresponding to the remaining 90% of your flight’s estimated CO₂ emissions.

Flying has further impacts on the climate beyond CO₂ emissions.

Available on intercontinental round-trip flights of Lufthansa Group Airlines, except for bookings to and from Japan.
