Extended rebooking options

Fewer and fewer Corona restrictions and more and more opportunities to travel again.
Many of our fares and tickets can still be rebooked on short-, medium- and long-haul routes.
For some existing bookings, the regular fare conditions will apply from 1 June 2022; previous goodwill arrangements will then expire. For you as a customer with unused tickets, Lufthansa Group Airlines offers another alternative if you do not yet want to or cannot commit to a new travel date.
We are currently experiencing a high number of customer contacts in our Lufthansa Service Centers, which may lead to longer waiting times. We apologise for the resulting longer waiting times. Our staff will do everything possible to process your requests as quickly as possible. If you have any questions about the entry requirements at your destination, please first consult the travel regulations on our website.
Important information and changes at short notice can be found at any time on our special page "Current flight information".
We ask you to always check the status of your flight and the current travel and entry restrictions of your final or transit destination before you start your journey. These might be subject to change on short notice. The latest entry restrictions can be found via the Lufthansa Travel regulation page. Please also check the current flight information page.
In case your flight is cancelled, your ticket remains valid and can be used at a later date. Rebooking to the same destination within the same travel class is free of charge.
How do I rebook?
You can rebook online via My Bookings or contact us via our Service Center.
Before contact us, please make sure:
- to have your booking reference at hand
- to already have your new travel date in mind
In case you booked via an (online) travel agency, please contact them directly to be rebooked.
If one or more flights of your trip is / was cancelled by the airline, you have the following options:
1. General rebooking rule:
Lufthansa will rebook you automatically once free of charge to an alternative flight to the same destination and in the same travel class. In several cases (especially if your cancellation is not within the next 48 hours), it may be that Lufthansa cannot book you onto an alternative flight pro-actively. In such cases, you can select an alternative yourself according to certain specifications. This is also possible if an alternative booked automatically by Lufthansa does not fit your plans. The rebooking should be made within the period of ticket validity (usually one year from the original departure date). To do so, please go to My Bookings or contact our Service Center or your travel agency as soon as possible.
2. Special rules for older tickets with a travel date between 01 June 2020 and 31 August 2021 (issued on/before 31 July 2021) which have not been already rebooked:
Both of the below options must be completed by 18 May 2022 (for tickets with original travel dates of June 2020) or 31 May 2022 (for tickets with original travel dates of July 2020-August 2021)
- Either the ticket can be exchanged once to a new travel, including changes to your travel class, departure or destination airport.* The new travel must start the latest by 28 February 2023. The ticket will be recalculated, and additional payment may be required if the new fare is higher. Please contact a Lufthansa Service Center or your Travel agency.
- Or -if you are unable to choose new travel by these dates-below qualifying tickets may be exchanged first to a so-called “Refundable Travel Credit EMD” instead. The Travel Credit is valid one year from the date of issuance, for an exchange once to a new travel, including changes to your travel class, departure or destination airport*, for the same traveler. The new ticket will be recalculated and additional payment may be required if the new fare is higher. Qualifying tickets for an exchange to a “Refundable Travel Credit EMD” are:
- Tickets issued before or on 31 July 2021 with a travel date between 01 June 2020 and 31 August 2021
- Tickets for international travel (including a domestic feeder flight)
- Tickets that are entirely unused
- Tickets are eligible for full refund due to flight cancellation

- If you hold a ticket for a flight cancelled by Lufthansa and have not yet submitted it for refund, you can submit it here or to your travel agency.
- If you have already submitted your refund request by phone or email, please do not re-submit your refund request as this can result in a delay in processing.
- If your ticket is completely unused, the ticket price including all taxes and fees will be refunded to the original means of payment.
- If you have used one or more flights from your ticket, the unused portion of the fare value, taxes and fees will be calculated for refund.

For new bookings made, many fares of the Lufthansa Group airlines worldwide are currently changeable without a change fee. The departure and destination airports can also be changed.* If the rebooked fare is more expensive due to a change of route or a necessary change of travel or booking class, an additional charge may be applicable. Please refer to the fare rule details for possible exceptions shown in your fare selection screen upon booking at Lufthansa.com.
* Exception: An exclusive domestic ticket cannot be changed to an international route and an international ticket cannot be changed to a domestic route.
