An icon of the skies

Lufthansa has been operating the Boeing 747 for over 50 years – and the 747-8 still bears its unmistakeable look, with distinctive hump, upper deck, and four engines. When Lufthansa launched its first Boeing 747 on the Frankfurt–New York route on April 26, 1970, a new era of flying began. The 747 made long-haul trips possible for more and more people, and contributed to making Frankfurt one of the world’s most important international hubs.

The last chapter in a long history

The 747-8 is the most modern and final version of the legendary Boeing 747. Technologies from the 787 Dreamliner have been incorporated into its development – the “8” in its name refers precisely to this link. New wings and modern GEnx engines by General Electric make this plane considerably more efficient than previous models, without sacrificing the unmistakeable character of the 747.
