Tasting HEIMAT – discover the taste of Germany

Heimat, that's what people in Germany call the place where they feel at home. But what does home actually taste like? Very diverse – at least in Germany: discover the culinary roots of six German metropolises in the new Business Class menus. Michelin-star chefs Julia Komp and Dennis Puchert have developed these regional dishes to bring the taste of Heimat on board.

Six unique local kitchens

Dennis Puchert and Julia Komp have familiarised themselves with local cuisine and its special traditions in six German regions. With an eye for the essential and a great love of detail, they have created menus that interpret the taste of home in a completely new way: Highlights of German cuisine, refined with culinary influences from around the world.

From the soil into the air

The ingredients of the menus come from the region. Harvested in German fields and processed by local producers, they are prepared fresh daily and served on board. So you can enjoy the authentic taste of home on your way into the world.

Home made by hand

Nothing shapes German food culture as much as our bread. The more than 300 varieties have even been recognised by UNESCO as an intangible world cultural heritage. That's why we serve a traditional, freshly baked assortment of twelve different breads and ten sorts of bread rolls with the new menus.

The six hometowns of the new menus

Frankfurt

In the fields around their city, the people of Frankfurt harvest the most important ingredients of their home cuisine: the seven herbs of the famous Green Sauce. In addition to borage, chervil, cress, and parsley, every "Grie Soß" also includes sorrel, pimpinelle, and chives. On board, enjoy a take on this classic with young kale, a poached egg, and French macaire potatoes.

Munich

The Bavarian dishes are hearty! Obatzter, onion gravy, and meat loaf, among other things, are served here. So even above the clouds it tastes as if the ingredients came directly from the famous Viktualienmarkt in Munich's old town. By the way, you can visit the market every day to get to know even more Bavarian delicacies. We wish you "An Guadn!"

Berlin

If there is a street food city in Germany, it is Berlin. Not only did the doner kebab conquer the hearts – and palates – of the Germans from here, Berlin is also the home of the famous currywurst, which you can enjoy on board with sauteed potatoes. By the way, if you want to take a culinary trip around the world in Berlin, we recommend a visit to Markthalle Neun in Kreuzberg. Every Thursday there is street food from all over the world.

Hamburg

Deutschland, Hamburg, Fischauktionshalle am Elbufer bei Sonnenaufgang

From dinner with a view of the Elbe to the fish market: Hamburg cuisine is all about seafaring. No wonder, because here there is always a salty breeze blowing from the sea. You can also feel a hint of it on board, for example when we serve you a crab salad with a beetroot and potato terrine as an appetiser. Tastes like fresh from the coast!

Leipzig

Saxony's largest city has something to offer for every taste. The world-famous Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Leipzig Book Fair are just as much at home here as the artist Neo Rauch, who has taken up residence in the old cotton mill. With the traditional dish "Leipziger Allerlei" you can also discover the culinary diversity of this city. On board you will enjoy our interpretation as a chicken salad in the Leipziger Allerlei style with celeriac, juniper and black walnuts.

Dusseldorf

The Rhineland is known for its cheerfulness, which is also evident in the curiosities of Rhenish cuisine. If you order the "Halve Hahn", for example, you won't get half a chicken, but a rye roll and cheese. The best place to discover such culinary surprises in Düsseldorf is in the old town – and with us on board, for example, as Rhenish sauerbraten with potatoes and broccoli.

Sustainable origin

In cooperation with our catering partner Gategroup, we obtain our products only from regional partners whenever possible. When sourcing ingredients, we also attach great importance to sustainable supply chains with short transport routes.
