Lufthansa names its A380s “Frankfurt”and “München”

Feb. 5, 2010 -It has been a closely guarded secret until now - but with the completion of the painting of the first Lufthansa Airbus A380 on Friday (February 5) it can now be revealed that the aircraft bears the name “Frankfurt am Main.” Lufthansa’s second A380, which arrived at the Airbus facility in Hamburg Finkenwerder on Wednesday afternoon (February 3), will be named “München”.

Jan. 26, 2010 -Lufthansa continues to expand in Düsseldorf: With the start of the summer flight schedule, the airline will resume services from Toronto and offer new nonstop connections to Athens, Greece; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Gdansk, Poland and Naples, Italy. The summer timetable for Düsseldorf, Lufthansa’s boutique-style hub in Germany, will include non-stop flights to 58 destinations across Europe and North America.
Special flight took off with aid for earthquake victims in Haiti

Jan. 25, 2010 -A Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 freighter carrying around 75 tons of relief supplies for the quake victims in Haiti took off from Frankfurt Airport at 4:15 p.m. CET today. The flight is due in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, at 8:15 p.m. local time. Landings in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince are subject to extremely tight restrictions - the airport is largely utilized for military flights.
Lufthansa launches new routes via Munich

Jan. 22, 2010 -This summer, Lufthansa will offer connecting flights from Munich to exciting new destinations. From the end of March, the two long-haul destinations Tashkent and Tehran will be included in the timetable. In addition, services to Cairo, which were launched this winter from Munich, will be extended until May 30, 2010.

Lufthansa Cargo transports relief supplies for earthquake victims in Haiti

Jan. 18, 2010 -Lufthansa is supporting international emergency relief operations to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Next Monday, Lufthansa Cargo will dispatch an MD-11 freighter with about 80 tons of relief supplies on board from Frankfurt bound for the Greater Antilles. The shipment consists mainly of food, medication and technical equipment.
Lufthansa plans flights to Iraq

Jan. 12, 2010 -As Iraq’s civil aviation continues to open up, demand for flights to the country is growing. Lufthansa is therefore examining the possibility of launching several new services to Iraq and is currently planning to serve the capital, Baghdad, and the city of Erbil in Northern Iraq from its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.

Oct. 27, 2009 - Following today’s official accession of US carrier Continental Airlines to Star Alliance, Lufthansa and Continental Airlines will now be able to offer their mutual customers a range of new benefits. From 31 October, for example, all Continental flights between the United States and Germany will also be bookable under a Lufthansa flight number. This applies to the services operated daily between Newark (New York) and Hamburg, Berlin Tegel and Frankfurt, as well as to the new route between Houston and Frankfurt, which Continental will launch on 2 November. In addition, Lufthansa customers will have a choice of convenient connections to 37 destinations in the United States via Continental’s hubs at Newark and Houston.

FlyNet takes off again: Lufthansa relaunches broadband Internet on-board

Oct. 12, 2009 - In mid-2010, when Lufthansa reintroduces FlyNet, its satellite-based Internet on-board service, the airline’s customers will once again be able to communicate above the clouds via broadband Internet. In addition to the wireless Internet access, the newly improved service will permit inflight data transfer over standard GSM/GPRS mobile networks. This will enable Lufthansa passengers in the future to also send text messages by mobile phone and transfer data via smartphones such as PDA, iPhone or BlackBerry devices.
Lufthansa winter flights to 191 destinations in 78 countries

Oct. 9, 2009 - In view of weaker demand in the coming winter flight schedule, Lufthansa is reducing the number of its weekly flights, especially on German and European routes. All in all, a total of 12,406 weekly flights will make up the new winter timetable (previous year: 13,402), a decrease of 7.4%. Through gradual withdrawal of smaller regional aircraft and the deployment of larger types, the available seat capacity will remain stable in a year-on-year comparison.
Lufthansa Group airlines carried 55.4 million passengers in first nine months of 2009

Oct. 9, 2009 - Lufthansa traffic figures declined in the first nine months of 2009 due to the persistent global recession. Europe’s biggest airline was consequently unable to match the level achieved in the comparable term in the previous year. The Lufthansa passenger count in the first three quarters of the current year was down by 3.9% to 41.9 million. In the same period capacity was scaled back by 1.9% in line with the dropping demand. Revenue seat-kilometers fell by 3.8%. The seat load factor was down accordingly by 1.5 points to 77.7 %.

Oct. 7, 2009 The biggest crane took to the skies for the first time yesterday as Lufthansa’s A380 made its maiden voyage from Toulouse over the south of France.
