Hanseatic and cosmopolitan

If you stand on the sandy shore of the River Elbe in West Hamburg and look over at the cruise ships and sailors, it’s easy to get the travel bug. When you’ve had enough of the shore, take yourself to the ‘Seebär’ jetty and cross over to the ‘Altes Land’, the fruit-producing region which now, in spring, is a sea of white cherry and pink apple blossom.

On the way back, the ferry across the Elbe powers past the Finkenwerder Airbus factory towards Hamburg’s Blankenese suburb. Blankenese boasts the highest hill for far and wide – the Süllberg, a good 75 metres high, with small villas built on its slopes and criss-crossed by winding alleyways.

On the top of the hill sits the 5-star Süllberg Hotel and inside, as its elegant, Hanseatic-style centrepiece, Karlheinz Hauser’s ‘Seven Seas’ restaurant. Here, tradition and splendour in the style of a bygone era form a backdrop to the French-influenced cuisine. Two Michelin stars and the highest distinctions make this gourmet restaurant into a worthwhile destination and it has the most wonderful views over the Elbe. Passengers in Lufthansa Business Class can now look forward to a maritime menu lovingly created by Karlheinz Hauser.

A maritime theme on board

Our in-flight entertainment programme also has a maritime theme: we are showing ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’, the classic 1962 film starring Marlon Brando which was filmed on location in the South Pacific. And we’re giving you a little sailor’s kitbag that you can take away with you for your next flight.

For your safety

Lufthansa recommend keeping the seatbelt fastened.
