Ready to take-off for the future — the new Germanwings

Since the end of 2012, Germanwings has gradually been preparing for take-off on Lufthansa’s routes in Germany and Europe outside of the Frankfurt and Munich hubs. This is so that the most extensive European route network will still be available to you in the future.

From 1 July this Lufthansa Group airline will have a completely new offer for you: you will then be able to fly on flexible fares that offer outstanding value for money — and you will be able to choose the level of comfort that suits you best.

From 1 July 2013: enjoy ‘à-la-carte flying’

With the innovative offer from the ‘new Germanwings’ you will have the choice between especially low prices, selected services and all-inclusive comfort. If travelling on the ‘Basic’ or ‘Smart’ fare you can book extra services for a charge, whilst the ‘Best’ fare already includes numerous amenities.

The scheduled route changeover

Flights to and from Stuttgart, as well as some of the routes in Hamburg are already being operated by Germanwings; the Hamburg – Cologne route will follow in July.

All the other routes in Hamburg, Berlin and Dusseldorf are to be transferred gradually before the end of 2014. The exceptions are connections to Frankfurt and Munich and long-haul flights.

Your booking in the transitional phase

You will be able to book and experience the offer from the ‘new Germanwings’ with effect from 1 July this year. If you have already booked with Lufthansa, you will be automatically rebooked on a Germanwings flight when the route is transferred. If you hold a Business Class ticket you will be rebooked onto the Germanwings ‘Best’ fare.*

You will be notified by e-mail or by your travel agent and can then conveniently check-in for your flight via germanwings.com.

As a rebooked Lufthansa passenger on board a Germanwings flight you will generally be given a seat with the maximum legroom* as well as a snack and a beverage. In addition, one item of checked baggage weighing up to 23 kg is included free of charge on every fare.
