Mandatory ESTA registration for US-bound travellers
Electronic authorisation now required for entry into USA
Starting March 20, 2010, entry requirements for passengers traveling to the U.S. that were initiated in January 2009 are becoming more stringent for airlines: passengers traveling to the United States without a visa under the Visa Waiver program is prohibited if the passengers have not received an electronic entry permit from the U.S. authorities prior to departure. Registrations can be completed online via ESTA, the electronic system for travel authorization. As of March 20, 2010, if a passenger is not registered at the time of check-in for the flight into the U.S., they will be refused entry into the United States.
Online authorisation can obtained solely from the website which has been set up for applications by the US authorities. The process is free. In most cases, applicants will be emailed confirmation of approval to travel within a matter of seconds.
The authorisation is then valid for two years or until the date their passport expires, whichever comes first. Information submitted in an application can also be amended on
the website. More details about ESTA as well as questions and answers about the process are also available on the website.
During a transitional period, passengers must still complete on board the green I-94W arrival/departure form which will be handed as previously to US officials on arrival at the
airport. Lufthansa advises its passengers to submit an application for online authorisation to enter the USA well before their flight and to carry a print-out of it throughout their journey.
Lufthansa launches three new long-haul routes from Munich
Tashkent, Teheran and Miami added to Lufthansa’s route network
This summer Lufthansa will be offering flights from Munich to three new long-haul destinations. From the end of March, Tashkent, Teheran and Miami will be included in the
timetable.
Lufthansa will begin operating the new service to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on 28 March 2010. Lufthansa will serve Tashkent three times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays). On each of those days, flight LH 644 will depart from Munich for Uzbekistan at 20.35 hrs.
The route will be flown by a Boeing 737-800, which is currently operated on behalf of Lufthansa by the Swiss business jet operator PrivatAir. This aircraft has 24 seats in Business Class and 84 in Economy Class.
On 29 March, Lufthansa will resume services from Munich to Teheran. A PrivatAir Boeing 737 will be operated under the flight number LH 608. Flights will depart for the Iranian capital
four times a week (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) at 20.35 hrs. This flight, with a two-class configuration, will offer all the comforts of Lufthansa’s long-haul product.
Services to Miami from Munich will also be resumed on 29 March. Flight LH 460, operated by an Airbus A330, will depart from Munich three times a week (on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays) at 9.35 hrs.
In addition, flights to Cairo will be continued until 30 May 2010. The thrice-weekly service to the Egyptian capital was launched in November 2009 and was originally planned as a winter seasonal service. From 28 March, Cairo will be served four times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays). As before, flights will be operated by a PrivatAir Boeing 737 in a two-class configuration.
Ljubljana Airport (LJU) temporarily closed
Ljubljana Airport will close to all traffic for runway renovation between 7th and 21st April 2010. During the closure Adria Airways flights will be operated from Maribor Airport (MBX).
Codeshare flights with JetBlue bookable
Lufthansa customers can now book the new codeshare flights with Lufthansa’s cooperation partner JetBlue. Since November 2009, the US carrier will be providing seamless
