What can I do if my flight is delayed?

Under EC Regulation No. 261/2004 a delay occurs when a flight is delayed beyond its scheduled departure time by four hours for flights of more than 3,500 km, by three hours for flights between 1,500 km and 3,500km, as well as for flights of more than 1,500 km within the EU, and by two hours for flights of less than 1,500 km. If your flight is expected to be subject to a long delay, you are entitled to receive care services from the airline.

These are: meals and refreshments in a reasonable relation to the time you have to wait, overnight hotel accommodation if necessary and the opportunity to make two short telephone calls, or to send two faxes or e-mails. The airline is not required to provide these care services if doing so would result in further delay to the departure. For delays of five hours or more you are entitled to a refund within seven days of those parts of your ticket which have not been used and for already flown flight segments if the purpose of your trip is spoilt as a result of the delay and, if necessary, a return flight to your point of departure at the earliest possible opportunity.
