How does the auction work?
The Lufthansa online auction gives you the opportunity to buy air tickets at an auction.
The opening times for the auctions are displayed on the auction homepage. The auctions run without a break up to their published closing time.
To take part in a Lufthansa auction, you must have a lufthansa.com profile. You can create this free of charge on the www.lufthansa.com website by clicking the "Login" button and then selecting "New Registration". If you are already a member of the Miles & More frequent flyer programme, you can also log on with your Miles & More membership number and your PIN code.
User data created in connection with the last auction is no longer valid.
How do I enter an auction room?
On the auction homepage you will see a list of all the auctions currently in progress.
If you are interested in a particular destination, click on it to view the offer details. On the next page you will be able to find out more about the flight offered and place bids.
How do I obtain further information about a flight?
To obtain a detailed description of an auction offer, enter the auction room for that offer by clicking the relevant country/destination on the homepage. The offer details specify the travel period and the departure and destination airports. They also include information on the number of passengers and the travel class. Individual auctions may be subject to restrictions as to the date of travel, but where this applies, the restrictions are stated separately in the auction offer.
What is the total price of tickets that are bought at auction?
The prices resulting from the highest bid contain all airport and other taxes and charges. These taxes and charges are calculated in accordance with the legal requirements and are already included in the price resulting from the highest bid. Hence there are no further taxes or charges to pay in respect of air tickets purchased at auction.
Do I have to register in order to take part in an auction?
To take part in a Lufthansa auction, you must have a lufthansa.com profile. You can create this free of charge on the www.lufthansa.com website by clicking the "Login" button and then selecting "New Registration". If you are already a member of the Miles & More frequent flyer programme, you can also log on with your Miles & More membership number and your PIN code.
How can I follow the course of the auction?
Enter the auction room by clicking on one of the flight offers in the auction overview. Bids are displayed in the auction room immediately that they are placed. Bids are accepted in the order that they arrive on our server and are electronically time stamped. To ensure that you can see all the bids that have been entered, you should take care to refresh the page regularly.
How do I make a bid?
To place a bid, all you have to do is enter an amount that is higher than the present highest bid in the appropriate field. You can bid within the predefined incremental bids in full euro amounts. All auctions require a minimum bid of 1 euro.
Then click on the "Bid" button and confirm your bid once again on the next page by clicking the "Confirm bid" button.
When your bid has been accepted, you will receive a confirmation to this effect and the bid will be displayed in your personal auction overview.
What happens if I win an auction?
First you will receive an e-mail confirming that you have won the auction. You will then receive a call from the Lufthansa Online Auction Team within 24 hours. Within 24 hours you must then advise the Lufthansa Auction Team of your precise travel dates and the names of all co-travellers, which are binding and cannot be changed afterwards. Once you make your initial booking, you have a guaranteed booking within the specified travel period. Should you subsequently wish to change your travel dates, you will have to pay a fee of €50 per person/ticket. Please note also that you can only change your booking afterwards in booking classes V for Economy and Z for Business and subject to availability. Once you have changed your booking, you lose the booking guarantee. It is not possible to change the route or cancel your flight. Stopovers are not permitted. Open-jaw flights (e.g. a flight to New York, returning from Washington) are permitted.
Please have your credit card or bank card ready for the booking process and issue of tickets. If you have bought an air ticket at auction for another person, the booking process can still only be processed through you as the auction winner. In that case, please advise us of the name of the passenger and the travel dates.
Please note that payment must be taken from the winner of the auction.
Can I change the booking of an air ticket that I have bought at auction?
Once you have won an auction and your travel dates and passenger name(s) have been agreed with the Lufthansa Online Auction Service Team, no further changes are possible.
The trip must be made fully in accordance with the route shown on the issued ticket and in the sequence displayed thereon. If even one flight segment is not completed, the remaining flight segments will be annulled.
Can I change the time or date of flight tickets purchased in an auction?
As the confirmed winner of an auction for a given flight offer, you can choose your preferred travel dates within the specified travel period. You have a booking guarantee to this effect. Once the tickets have been issued, it is only possible to change the time or date for a fee of €50 per passenger and subject to availability in booking classes V for Economy and Z for Business.
Is there a discount available for children travelling with a paying passenger?
Children aged between 2 and 11 are treated as adults for the purposes of auctions, so that each such child counts as one of the passengers that make up the passenger number stated. Accordingly, no child discount is available.
