Zürich Airport: Changes at Check-in 1
To keep up with the steady growth of passengers at Zurich Airport and to speed up the check-in process, the following infrastructural adjustments will be made at the Check-in 1 at Zurich Airport.
As of 30 July 2009, self check-in machines will be placed in front of the counters. This follows the current trend of "off counter" check-in possibilities such as web check-in, self check-in at machines and check-in at the train station. An assistant will be present to help unpracticed passengers.
Unaccompanied minors and disabled persons can check-in as usual at the manned check-in counter in the center part of the departure hall, opposite the big display panel.
The check-in area of business and first class passengers (incl. Star Gold/SEN/FTL and HON) will not be changed. Separate business class self check-in machines as well as separate baggage drop-off areas are available.
Lufthansa expands in Africa – New flights to Libreville
Lufthansa is expanding its services in West and Central Africa and adding another new destination to its network. From 15 July 2009, the airline will fly five times per week from Frankfurt via Accra, Ghana, to Libreville, the capital of Gabon.
In addition, from 1 July 2009, we will be serving Accra five times a week non-stop, rather than with a stopover in Lagos, Nigeria.
Including the SWISS destinations Douala and Yaounde (both in Cameroon), Lufthansa customers have a choice of 31 flights per week to eight destinations in this dynamic economic region in West and Central Africa.
Schengen Agreement Implementation on 29 March 2009
Since 29 March 2009, as a result of the implementation of the Schengen Agreement in Switzerland, there are no more passport controls for flights within the Schengen zone. Passengers only have to pass one security control instead of two.
Therefore, the departure gate in Frankfurt has been moved from area B to area A – the Schengen area.
Also in Munich flights to Switzerland are now departing from the Schengen EU area instead of the non-Schengen EU area. As before, there will only be one security control.
The Schengen Agreement will also be implemented at airports in Switzerland. Consequently passengers on Schengen and non-Schengen flights need to be physically separated. Therefore, over the course of 2009, major construction work has to be done at the Geneva and Zurich airports in order to optimize the flow of passenger traffic within the airport in line with the new conditions.
Safety measures for hand luggage on all departures from or transfers via EU members states
Since November 2006, restrictions have been introduced regarding taking liquids into the cabin on all flights originating in or flying via the EU. This includes all German domestic flights.

Lufthansa recommends keeping the seatbelt fastened
New rules in the interest of passenger safety.
In the event of unexpected turbulence, injuries are often the result on board passenger aircraft, whereby this could be prevented in many cases if passengers kept their seatbelts fastened. For that reason, up to now Lufthansa has recommended that passengers keep their seatbelts fastened. In the interest of the safety of its passengers, the airline has now decided to make it generally compulsory to fasten seatbelts. Passengers will still be allowed to stand up, for example, to stretch their legs or to visit the toilet, unless fasten seatbelt signs are switched on. The new regulation also applies to Lufthansa Regional partners. Incidentally, the aircraft itself is designed to resist the extra strain resulting from turbulence without any significant damage.
