Seminars for relaxed flying

Seminars for a relaxed flight help you to overcome your fear of flying. Under the guidance of psychologists, participants learn strategies and techniques for coping with their psychological and physical fear reactions. During the seminars, Lufthansa pilots share all the technical details about aircraft engineering and flight operations, in person in the cockpit and the cabin. Each seminar ends with participants taking a Lufthansa flight accompanied by the senior psychologist.

The agency Texter-Millott GmbH has been running these seminars in partnership with Lufthansa very successfully for more than 30 years. As well as the current seminars for individuals and groups, they are now also offering courses for children and purely informative seminars (‘Ready for Boarding’, ‘Cabin Training’).

Feel anxious or scared on board?

Many people are unable to relax during a flight. According to a representative survey carried out in 2003 by the Allensbach Institute, one of the most well-known and respected opinion and market research institutes in Germany , 16% of Germans are afraid of flying, whilst a further 22% feel distinctly uneasy on board. A survey in Austria carried out in 2013 by the travel search engine checkfelix.com reported that more than half of passengers (55%) feel uneasy when they have to board an aircraft.

Considering how safe flying really is, these are mostly irrational fears (mainly based on inadequate or incorrect information) which can be overcome, preferably with expert support.

  • Try to be as rested as possible before taking your flight
  • Get to the airport in good time - that will help you to become familiar with the atmosphere and situation
  • Keep your mind occupied during the flight by talking to your travelling companions or fellow passengers, listening to music, reading and so on
  • Drink plenty of water during the flight and avoid alcoholic drinks and drinks containing caffeine
  • Practise relaxation techniques before your flight (e.g. progressive muscle relaxation and breathing techniques) and use these frequently before take-off and during the flight
  • Tranquillisers, especially psychotropic drugs such as Benzodiazepine (‘Valium’, ‘Tavor’ (lorazepam), etc.) should only be taken after discussion with your doctor. This also applies to natural, plant-based remedies such as St. John’s Wort and valerian.
