Transporting animals in the aircraft

Travelling with your pets in the aircraft. You can look up all the info on this topic and the various transport options here. Lufthansa will transport animals either in the passenger cabin or in the aircraft’s cargo hold, depending on the animal’s weight and size.

Timely registration is necessary

Before you book your flight with an animal, please find out about the import and export regulations for animals and the animal welfare provisions that must be met in the country to which you intend to travel. You can obtain this information from the relevant country’s consulate, for example. Notwithstanding these provisions, there may be other restrictions imposed by Lufthansa. Please check on these before booking.

If you are transporting an animal in the cargo hold, you are strongly advised to arrive at the airport in plenty of time. In Frankfurt passengers should arrive at the airport with their animals at least 90 minutes and not earlier than 3 hours before scheduled departure.

To register animals on Lufthansa flights and for further information: call +49 (0)69 - 86 799 799 or contact the Lufthansa Airport Ticket team in person (when booking/no later than 24 hours before departure date).
