Once notorious as a grey industrial city, according to the travel writers Bilbao has developed over the last 30 years into one of the most attractive cities in Spain. Attractions mentioned as particularly worthy of a visit include the Guggenheim Museum and the underground stations designed by English architect Sir Norman Foster. The Gothic cathedral and the suspension bridge, the oldest transporter bridge in the world and a declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, are also highly recommended. This Basque city is also renowned for its football fever.
