Fine Wine in Rome
Half bar, half restaurant: wine bars are a relatively new phenomenon in Rome. Guests often stop by after work to enjoy a glass or two, and when they get hungry, they order tasty delicacies to nibble on. Wine bars usually don’t offer full-course meals but the wine is served by sommeliers and more and Romans are opting to spend a pleasant evening in the Eternal City enjoying the lively atmosphere of a wine bar. We take a small tour of what Rome has to offer.

Wines steeped in tradition and a chic ambience
It’s name says it all: This chic wine bar serves vintages and specialty foods from the Latium region of Italy. The wines produced at the Casale del Giglio vineyard in Latina are particularly to be recommended.

The wine menu at Roscioli is just as daunting as the wall of precious bottles with elaborate labels. If it weren’t for Mauro, the waiter and sommelier, you’d be completely overwhelmed. But he asks you your preference with a friendly, disarming smile and knows exactly what to recommend. All the great wines are available here, from Sassicaia to Brunello di Montalcino.

The Bottega Montecitorio is a well-stocked wine bar near the Parliament building. It has Tignanello from the old-established vintner Antinori as well as fresh-tasting white wines from South Tyrol.

Classical restaurants and international wines
The Enoteca Trastevere is almost an institution in Rome. It was around long before the recent wine-bar trend began. As you might guess by its name, it is located in the bustling Trastevere district and serves Bordeaux wines in addition to many fine Italian vintages.
