Destinations appropriate for children
Good preparation for a journey begins with the choice of a suitable destination. Because of the different environment in an aircraft (dry air, low air pressure, little space, little room to play) we recommend that you keep long, strenuous trips with children to a minimum.
Have you thought of everything? - Travel documents for children
As the result of an EU Directive, children are now required to have their own travel documents. Entries on one of their parent's passports are therefore invalid — irrespective of the age of the child. All children require their own travel document, with a passport photo, when travelling abroad. Please be aware of the time taken by the passport authorities to issue children’s passports, passports or ID cards and apply for these in good time before your trip.
Health check at the pediatrician
Do consult your family pediatrician before your planned flight. The doctor can not only advise you on required inoculations but also determine whether your child is fit enough to fly. It's also best to make an appointment a few days before your scheduled departure. That will enable the doctor to react in good time if any complications from inoculations crop up.
Flight booking and seat reservation
Please inform our staff or your travel agency when you book your flight that you will be taking a baby with you.
Infants who turn two during the journey will require their own seat; a child fare will be charged for the whole journey.
On Lufthansa long-haul flights special baby cots are available. Please be aware that the number of seats with cots is limited. The bassinets are suitable for babies up to 14 kg and up to 83 cm in length and are provided free of charge. Night flights are especially suitable for journeys with small children because children can then maintain their usual sleep pattern and get some rest.
You will find information on the use of child restraint systems here.
We also offer children's menus in course of our care concept "Lu's World" on many of our flights. You can order these when booking your flight, or at the latest 24 hours before your scheduled departure (no later than 48 hours prior to departure for tour groups) via the Lufthansa Service Center.

Children on board
Whenever possible reserve a window seat for your child. There are not only a lot of exciting things to see but you also have your child in sight and don't have to worry that he or she has gone off on unaccompanied exploration tours.
