Check-in options at a glance

For connecting flights
You can also check in for your connecting flight at the same time. You will receive that boarding pass at the Check-in machine too. Your baggage, which you can check in easily and without having to wait at one of the baggage drop-off counters, will of course be transported to your final destination.

For groups (1-4 people)
Up to four people can check in together for a flight in the same class at a Check-in machine and select adjoining seats. The process is simple and there is a step-by-step explanation on the screen. Naturally your travel companions can also change their seat, check in baggage or have miles credited (where applicable).

For the return flight
If your return flight takes place within 24 hours on the same calendar day, you may check in for the outbound as well as for the return flight. In this case you may only travel with hand luggage.

Online
If you have checked in online as a holder of an etix®, but have not been able to print out your boarding pass, you can print out your boarding pass yourself at a Check-in machine once you arrive at the airport.

By mobile phone
Once you have checked in by mobile phone via the mobile Lufthansa portal (mobile.lufthansa.com), you can either have your boarding pass sent directly to your mobile phone or print it out at the Check-in machine.

Subsequent changes

Change of seat or the number of items of baggage
Change your details, even if you have already checked in. To do so, simply place your boarding pass or mobile phone barcode-side down on the machine’s scanner.

Change of booking
If you have a rebookable ticket you may change your flight while checking in. If you are already checked-in, it is also possible to change your booking without problem. All you have to do is place your boarding pass or your mobile phone barcode-side down on the machine’s scanner. Then select your desired departure time from the list of flights displayed. Should you select a flight that is already fully booked, you can request a place on the wait list.

Check-in with baggage

Free baggage allowance
You can check in your baggage at the machine until you reach the limit of your free baggage allowance. If you are travelling in a group you may combine the individual free baggage allowances.

Baggage check-in
Checking in with baggage is possible at any airport that has Check-in machines. You will either automatically be asked to check in your baggage or, at the end of the check-in process, directed to the nearest baggage drop-off counter.

Using your Miles & More card at Check-in machines

Mileage credit
If you provided your Miles & More card number when you booked, miles will be automatically credited to your account. If the number was not registered, you have the option of entering your Miles & More card number during the check-in process.

Retroactive mileage credits are possible online at www.miles-and-more.com or via your Miles & More Service Centre.

Several people can be booked on a customer card issued by a Star Alliance partner. These will be displayed on the screen. To check in simply select the relevant names.

Choosing a seat at the Check-in machine

If you have not yet reserved a seat, you can personally select your seat at the Check-in machine. In addition you can select adjoining seats for yourself and up to three companions.

Help at the Check-in machines

There may be a number of reasons why you cannot check in at the Check-in machine.

The magnetic strip on your card or your paper ticket could not be read.
Please contact one of our check-in counters where someone will be able to help you immediately.

You are checking in too late for your booked flight.
If you are in possession of a rebookable ticket you may change your flight. If not, please contact one of our ticket counters, where somebody will be able to help you immediately.

There is no booking in your name.
Please contact one of our ticket counters, where somebody will be able to help you immediately.

You have been referred to a Check-in counter.
This measure is intended purely as a personal service.
Possible reasons for it may be: you are travelling with an animal or a message has been left for you at the counter.

You have entered your passenger receipt by mistake.
Please enter your flight coupon.

No electronic ticket could be found for you at the Check-in machine.
Please contact one of our ticket counters, where somebody will be able to help you immediately.

Your credit card or your paper ticket was retained by the Check-in machine.
Please contact the person in charge of the machine or a Lufthansa employee who will be able to help you straight away.

You cannot select a seat.
Either there are no more seats available for you to select or you have pre-reserved seats.
