Regardless of its breed or type, an assistance dog is specially trained to take on tasks or work for a person with an impairment. These may include visual, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual or other cognitive impairments.
You can take an assistance dog with you on any route free of charge. However, certain requirements must be met for you to take a dog into the cabin:
- In order to ensure the safe and undisturbed operation of the flight, your dog must be trained to obey your commands and must behave appropriately in a public space (it must not bark, growl or jump up at people or other animals).
- Your dog must never defecate in an uncontrolled manner in the cabin or at the gate. If it is necessary, it must be done in a way that does not affect the hygiene or health of others.
- If your dog does not behave in an appropriate manner, Lufthansa reserves the right to transport the dog in the cargo hold for a surcharge or to refuse to carry the animal. You are liable for any damage and additional costs arising from the carriage of your dog.
