Seattle places of interest

According to travel guides Seattle is a very young city, even by North American standards. Named after ‘Seattle’, the chief of two local Native American tribes, it did not become a city until the end of the 19th century, but then grew rapidly. The history of modern Seattle began in 1962 when it hosted the World’s Fair; many of the city’s attractions were built as part of that event. One of these was the Space Needle, a ‘must see’ which features in every travel guide. From this vantage point, almost 200 metres high, you can see the whole of the city along with the harbour and Puget Sound. A rotating restaurant at the top of the Needle lets you enjoy the view while you dine. Seattle also offers many other attractions apart from the Space Needle, with a variety of museums and parks that are well worth a visit.
